It sounds like a great project but please post pictures and floor plans if possible. You won't get any advice if people can't visualize the space.

You now have two discussions started on this same dilemma. Can you delete one of them?

The first thing you need to do is declutter. This looks like it will be a great house once we can actually see it.

I also am not sure what your questions are. You need to be more specific.

Are you currently living here, just moving in or putting it on the market? As for your specific questions; look into getting a new mantel, much thicker and interesting, that can be slipped right over the current one. If you find the brick too dark, consider doing a whitewash or a German Smear technique on it. Heat proof black paint can freshen up the metal parts of the heatilator. What material is the wainscot? Is that just paint below or some kind of wood or product? Paint might be the key to that issue. A round table would work well in the squarish room. I'd look for more of a farmhouse style chandelier. If you're just moving in, I would wait on anything major in the kitchen. For now, just remove the wallpaper and paint it. Light sage green will look good with the pine cabinets. I can't tell much about the rad, but a table built in right over it might work if the height is correct. Look for radiator cover under Photos here at Houzz for ideas. You might replace it with a lower style one and then build a bench over it.

Keep the fireplace. It suits the house.

You have way too much stuff everywhere, it's really hard to make sense of everything.

Those cabinets look like they've seen better days. If they're in good condition, paint them, though it may be almost as cheap to replace them and would give you a chance to reconfigure your kitchen so it's more functional. The stove definitely needs a better place.

Install recessed lighting if you can, track lighting if you can't.

Rip that wallpaper border off today.

you asked about the fireplace but you have posted pictures of the whole house...so I think you need to start in one spot only.

I'm cautious so I'd start by painting the ceiling first and then see if you want to paint the paneling. Chalk paint might do well on the ceiling. Something neutral like white or cream.
