Thank you, bossy, and to answer your questions to the best of my ability. The rose in the first pic is the same as the "plant with the red blooms ... third pic from the bottom". I got a cutting of it from a gardener in Lexington (where I grew up) and they had found it at an old house in the country near there. It was a log cabin that probably was over a hundred years old and the rose is probably near that age as well, but no one has ever been able to identify it. It grows with or without care and blooms all season. I love it and it appears to be disease resistant. If you are referring to the tall grass behind the salvia, that is pampas grass..................I did not trim it this year.

Junegreen, thank you as well and that is lobelia, petunias and white verbena. Lobelia is one of my favorite blue flowers (I do love blue flowers), and it does pretty well for me despite the heat. I will just have to never let it dry out when the temps get in their summer mode.

Pampas...ahhh. I’m afraid of it b/c it gets huge. Lots of work to keep it within bounds. Yours looks so well mannered.

Yes, it has thorns. It is a survivor...............the original spot I planted it in has a lot of shade now that the trees have gotten quite large, so it just grew tall and went over the fence like a climber to get to the sun.

Carrie751, after far too long, over a decade, I've come back to find you on this post to tell you what a beautiful thing you did for my son and myself. We were beginner gardeners, and after a Fort Worth plant swap, you had us come and "help" you thin plants. We found out that YOU were the one helping US. Everyone at the plant swap had been so generous, and then you loaded our minivan with enough plants to turn our desert backyard into an oasis, which we did! You sparked something in my then-teenage son who's approaching 30 in the next few years--he learned to love gardening that day, and he still does! He lives in North Carolina now, and I've moved to the U.P. of Michigan, building a new organic homestead as my husband and I are transitioning to grow all our own food, in addition to TONS of flowers. Because of what you did for me, I started a plant swap group in our small town that has over 425 members now and is growing every day. There was already a seed library here, and I'm an active member. I try to be as generous with others as you were to me. Just wanted you to know that your kindness has spread a long way, over many miles and years and people. Thank you so much!
