HELP!! fantasy brown or alpinus kitchen counters?

Hi, I’m in quite the dilemma. I can’t decide between these two counters in my kitchen. I’ve asked friends and family and it’s pretty much a 50/50 split, so I’m hoping you all can help. It’s a new construction home and my perimeter cabinets will be white, the island cabinets will be light grey, white tile mosaic lantern backsplash. (Please disregard the granite sample in the pic, we aren’t using that, and the tile in pic will be white, not grey)
Thanks in advance for your input!

I love Alpinus but your slab is busier than many that I have seen. Also, it's a very warm and creamy granite, and combining with gray might be tricky. Of course some grays are warm also, hard to know without seeing in their final location as a combo.

With your cabinet choices and white backsplash fantasy works better but personally I think that alpine slab is awesome! It’s so rich, warm and interesting. It would work better with warm creamy colors while alpine works better with the cool white and grey palate you’re going for.

I typo-d sorry. Does what I wrote make sense?

I think so. I was thinking the same thing that perhaps the Alpinus was too warm and wouldn’t match the cabinets. The FB might be a better fit..

I think the Alpinus is really cool looking, but I'm not seeing it with gray cabinets. Maybe it looks good in person?

    Fantasy Brown!

I had fantasy brown, pretty stone, but in my case, it chips fairly easily. I was told it was a granite by the fabricator and stone yard, but many other local shops have told me it is a dolomite...after the fact, of course. Perfectly fine for countertops, but they are softer and more like a marble than a granite. Although it’s gorgeous, I would do like the stone gurus on here preach-test, test, test. Don’t trust what you’re told, trust what you can prove through testing.

I would not put a wavy patterned backsplash with a wavy countertop.

I would vote for Brown Fantasy as long as you know it is a marble and not a granite

Neither. They’re everywhere and due to have the tip over into being considered Dated at any point. As will any trendy thing that is overused.

Ok wow didn’t they they’re on the verge of being dated. Ok back to the drawing board!!

I would go with what you love. I like the top one better. But again, choose what you like.

I think the top one is stunning, but I wouldn’t use it with grey cabinets.

FB the top option is much nicer with your other choices.

I am also in the FB camp. Have you considered any other stones?

rkrkok Just to let you know there is a proven anti-etch product hitting the market in june which will help with the maintenance of marble!

If you want to use the arabesque tile, don't get a counter with wave-like movement. With the FB, you would have had waves going horizontally on the counter and vertically on the wall. It's very common that people don't consider pattern when selecting a counter and backsplash. They only look at color.

Oh that’s a good point mayflowers didn’t think about patterns at all! Here are some quartz options. What do you all think?

I think the larger particles are going out of style. They were among the first designs offered in quartz, and that dates back to the early to mid 90s. I seldom see anyone show it as a candidate on the forum. Six years ago when I did my kitchen it was more common.

I'd stick with the small particle quartz in the white or the light gray. I like the warm tone of the light gray but it may not have the same undertone of the island, so you'll want to check that carefully. Same with the white colors and your white cabinets.

I don't like the large particle quartz counters either. Which is more important to you? The arabesque shape or the pretty natural counters? I have quartz counters in a marble look that I love and also have arabesque shaped tile in a real marble behind my stove. Small subway shape elsewhere. Old pic below. Sorry, can't find current pics.

Thank you all for your input. It’s been extremely helpful!

Fantasy brown is nice and I was considering it. However, it is the most popular stone right now and your kitchen one day will look like everyone else's. I went with River Blue which has similar movement to fantasy brown but with more colors.
