Why is the fascia on my brand new home streaked and dirty?

Can anyone tell me why my fascia is streaked and dirty and if there is anything I can do about it? Builder says its from hard water (rain). We have a metal roof. Could that be the cause? I dont see this on other new homes. Thanks.

We moved in last week. Aluminum fascia. Metal roof. I’d say the exterior is about 7 months old.

    Dirt + rain = streaks!

    Solution: power wash.

    . . . weekly.

...Or paint it a "dirt" color. :-) One of the (non-creamy) brick hues would be great; you have lots of options!

    (Assuming it can be painted....)

    Mark Bischak...seriously?

    Will you have gutters?

The eavestrough will cover the streaking, though if they are clogged or inadequate, water washing over the edge will streak them as well.

How long did it take to get it to the condition it is in the images?

Gutters, without protection, fill with leaves and in hard rain overflow. Leaves create their own staining potential.

    Solution: The same. Power wash.

My house does not have gutters yet, due to issues with the siding. That will be fixed, and then galvanized half round gutters installed.

worthy...looks like things could be worse!!!

Mark, we noticed it shortly after installation. We are not around any trees. We are on a hill, all trees down hill from us. The gutters weren't installed due to an issue with the siding so this discoloration happened over the winter. Im thinking gutters may actually help the situation. Or a material other than vinyl?

Get the gutters and maybe a mesh cover, and you should be fine.

Here's what came up on internet search:

Owners of homes with metal roofs have sometimes reported dark streaks occurring on their eave fascia boards after the roof is installed.

    ANALYSIS

Although some homeowners worry that the streaks might be from paint washing off of the roofing, they can rest assured that this is definitely not the case with metal roof systems that have high quality paint systems, such as the Kynar/Hylar systems. This streaking problem occurs almost exclusively in climates where large amounts of airborne fungus exist. Because metal roofing will not hold or support fungus that lands on it, this fungus washes off of the roof and runs down the fascia boards, causing streaks. Heavily profiled metal roofs typically channel the water in certain areas and this can be seen in the streaking. In essence, rather than streaking the roof like it does with conventional roofing, fungus is washing off of the roof and streaking the fascia.

    SOLUTION

If gutters are installed on the building, this streaking will not be visible. If, for whatever reason, gutters are not to be installed, there are several things that can be done to help minimize this problem. In some cases, the drip edge from the roofing can be adjusted to help direct fungus-laden water away from the fascia. However, some will always blow back against the fascia. Using a paint for the fascia with a fungus-inhibitor in it can help. Also, installing metal fascia, particularly those produced from Kynar/Hylar coated metal, can help in resisting streaks. Another option is to use dark-colored fascia to help mask the streaking. Also, if desired, there are commercially available cleaners that can be used to periodically clean streaks from the fascia.

I have a home under construction now, shingles and the same issue. They look pretty bad. Constuction supervise told me today, that is from the new shingles and they will continue to streak like that for about a year (coincides when their 1 year warranty ends I guess). She said they do not clean them or paint them - they just leave them like that. Ugh
