Help my beige glass backsplash turned gray!

We installed Venetian Gold granite on Maple Cabinets and then picked out beige glass subway for the backsplash. Looked like a perfect choice in the store. After installation the backsplash looks really gray almost charcoal. We don't have the time or budget to remove and replace. Any suggestions to help it all work together? Paint the walls in greige or gray? New stainless appliance coming this weekend.

Thanks for any help.

That is not “beige”....by any stretch of the imagination! Are you sure that is what you picked out? Maybe the store sent you the wrong tile?

It definitely looked tan in store. I don’t know if it was the lighting or what, but either way I’m stuck with it.

I had the same thought. Did you check the tile boxes to make sure its the right color? If not I would look at them now.

I would not trust the store that they install the correct color. I would contact them ASAP.

That doesn't look beige at all. You should ALWAYS bring home samples to see how a material looks in your home's light, and you should always look in the box before a product gets installed.

Unfortunately, that needs to be torn out (along with the 4 inch granite section if you're doing a backsplash) the cool tones are clashing with the warm granite.

Definitely not tan. Luckily it is the least expensive thing to change in the kitchen. We have maple cabinets and we used a taupe, cream, brown, bronze backsplash.

Glass tiles, any color, are impacted by the the mortar. It appears through the tile. Do you have a piece left over? If so, and it is “beige”, then the installer used a mortar which has interfered with the color.

As to your question about painting the walls gray, I say yes. Try to match it perfectly…the tile will just segue into the wall color. You may be surprised at how good it looks.

Not so terrible, just paint the walls as Judy G suggests and I would remove the granite backsplash and bring the tile all the way down. Once you have things back on the counters and hung on the walls this will look very nice! Relax

Thanks everyone for all the help!!! I really appreciate it.

You can try to change out your bulbs to something warmer to see if the color looks more like what you saw in the store.

I second just tearing out the backsplash and leaving a painted wall. Something has gone terribly wrong here but I don't think sacrificing your original design intent of a warm toned kitchen by painting the walls grey is worth it. If you do end up keeping the tile and painting, I recommend classic grey. It will bring some warmth to the kitchen that most greys won't.

That blue grey tile is gorgeous with you cabinet color. It really sets it off. If there is any grey in your granite it will be fine. Beige glass might have looked dull with the the colors you have.

It’s hard to see in the photo but there is definitely some gray in the granite.

Then I would be happy it worked out that way. Beige would be so dull there. That color makes you kitchen come alive and it looks fresh and happy with the honey cabinets. I'm a designer, although a graphic one, and love the combo. Look at the photos on houzz and you will see that color of splash often used with that cabinet color.

If you decide to keep the back splash, I would change or recover your bar stools to bring that cooler gray tone to another area.

It's the mortar. Glass tiles usually require white mortar to keep the color.

Look how pretty the blue grey is with your cabinet color!

    Love it!

I would get rid of the backsplash as it looks very cool toned and clashes with everything, the best thing to do while remodeling is bring home samples of everything, chances are that anything you bring to try it in your home will look a little bit different, it happened to me when i chose my granite countertops(absolute cream) i still need to put the backsplash but a few weeks ago i brought home 3 ivory glass subway tilesto see how they would look, and when i put them next to my granite it changed the color to the point where the tile looked white almost gray :/

One simple improvement: change the switch plates/outlet covers to match the backsplash tile color.

I’m sorry but paint won’t help this... the splash looks fine with your cabinet but clashes with your warm counters. Glass tile is tricky but this is quite a dramatic departure from beige! Are you sure it was the correct order?

I like the gray tile! Paint your walls and then add a few accessories on the counter with a pop of color or some fresh flowers. Trust me, after a little time passes you won’t even notice it anymore. I do like the idea of removing the granite backsplash and taking the tile all the way to the counter. Good Luck!

Try adding some under cabinet lighting with a light rail molding. Maybe the color will look lighter/better.

I have no problem at all with the backsplash! I do have a problem with the granite splash however , it is what looks old fashioned here and once that is gone and you bring the glass down to the counter this will look very nice! Do a shade or two lighter gray on your walls. I think this “ mistake” is keeping your room from drowning in a sea of brown! Embrace it, the combination of warm and cool looks very good in here!

Thanks everyone for the ideas! I was ready to tear out the subway til, but I decided to remove the 4” granite backsplash and continue the subway tile down and see how it looked first. I actually like how it looks now. Thanks for the suggestion.

I amazed at what a difference removing that piece made. Kitchen looks great, especially with the new s.s. stove and micro.

much better. you've made the point I make to others about removing the piece before tiling. great job garner. would you mind if I used your pics on here for others to show what a before and after looks like?

also, replace your outlets/covers to more of a gray color or SS ones. the white is just 'in your face' against that color tile.

    Big difference!
