Exercise Room turned Guest Bedroom Finishing Touches

last modified: 7 years ago

This bedroom was previously used as an exercise/office. I have changed it to a guest bedroom, but I will be keeping my desk in the alcove of the room. It is newly painted, so I will not be changing the wall or ceiling paint. I have just received the quilt and shams this morning. I'd like advice on painting the nightstand, adding a lamp, artwork over beds, and pillows.

This room is 11 x 15 with usable space of approximately 10 x 10. I'm not sure a rug would work here because my desk chair would not be able to roll freely with a rug up against it. I was thinking possibly one or two scatter rugs.

There is a sliding door closet, so no need to add a small dresser. I wouldn't mind a garden stool or a small bench.

I look forward to hearing your advice!

Would the rectangular mirror be hung above the lamp?

Just about 8” above nightstand and lamp would be layered in front of it...

Great! Thank you Julie. I'm going to check these out now.

I love the curvy mirror Julie posted. It feels right with the direction the room is taking.

Then I would keep the light a bit simpler so it doesn't compete too much with the mirror.

After seeing the close up pic of the fabric on the comforters, it looks like the pillows could work.

Seems you're on your way Lizzie!

Kat, do you mean the Uttermost mirror? The lamp being a bit simpler than the one I have or the white one Julie suggested?

Yes, Lizzie. The Uttermost mirror. And keeping the light simpler than the one you have currently.

Thank you Kat. :)) I do like the white lamp Julie posted. I would prefer to find something like it locally (easier to return, if necessary). I went to Home Goods and Target today and took a lot of photos of mirrors and lamps. What do you think of this lamp?

You're welcome Lizzie. I like that lamp. The honeycomb base is pretty and I like the ivory shade. Do you think it will stand out well enough against your yellow wall?

    I don't know. Probably not....

But if there is a mirror behind it, wouldn't that help?

I think you need the white on the lamp..with the bright white quilt accent and some contrast against the wall color..and it looks a bit modern maybe even mid century looking..not sure about that one.

Ok. I need to find a pure white lamp.

Yes white would be best it can have gold accents if you like..if you haven't made decision on mirror yet.... I do love the blue one I posted...BUT....if you are moving sometime soon...a more neutral, white or gold frame could be used with anydecor down the road..just something to think about:)

I really like the curvy blue mirror for your room. If down the road the color doesn't work, there is always the option to paint the frame.

Thank you Melinda. I like it a lot too.

    The dimensions of my nightstand are 26" H x 20" W x 14.5" D.

    The dimensions of the mirror are 27" H x 18" W x 1" D.

I am thinking of purchasing the mirror to go above the nightstand, as long as the dimensions are a good fit.

Still looking for the perfect white lamp.

I think the mirror being a tiny bit narrower than the night stand makes it a perfect fit. Your room is going to be so cute!

    Thank you Melinda :))

I agree Lizzie. The mirror sounds like a perfect fit. What do you think of this one Lizzie? It's milk glass, so I think it would fit in well with the room and is very reasonably priced.

https://www.hayneedle.com/product/decortherapymilkglasstablelamp.cfm?ltype=child&tid=JIMC048-1 Just not sure if the shade might be a little too large for the size of your nightstand.

Hi Kat! We're having your kind of weather here today. 84 degrees.

I like the lamp you posted as well as the lamp Julie posted. My only concern is returning the lamp if it doesn't work out. Home Goods, and Target, and even Pottery Barn handle returns whether I buy it at the store or online. I have to read the policy for Hayneedle. I did purchase the white throws from Hayneedle, but I really didn't think they would be a problem. With a lamp you never know. Believe it or not, I returned 3 sets of sheets before keeping the set on the twin beds right now. I also returned the original quilt back to BB&B and the lamp to Home Goods. Not a good track record :(( I'll check it out now.

I Hope you know I appreciate your advice.

No worries Lizzie! I enjoy poking around to see what's out there. The right one will come along!

Milk Glass Table Lamp from JC Penney

Found this lamp on JC Penney site. Looks like the same lamp Kat posted above. What do you think? 26 1/2" H. Shade is 10" H with 14" bottom and top measurements.

    Here are the dimensions again for the nightstand. 26" H x 20" W x 14.5" D.

Will this be a good fit?

It is priced a bit more than Hayneedle, but I can get free store delivery, and it is a local store.

Great find at JC Penney..that is a really cute lamp good size and price!

That looks like the exact same lamp! Buying it locally makes more sense for easy returns.

Hi Kat. Yes, I think it is the same lamp too.

I found that Kohl’s sells the Uttermost mirror online. My only concern about that mirror is the shade of blue. I’m wondering if it will clash with the blue ceiling? If it is a problem, that too would be an easy return to my local Kohl’s. It is a lovely mirror, so I hope it works. I’m going to order it tomorrow.

Hi Lizzie. It's a pretty mirror. I'll be excited to see it in the room!

    Hello :)).

Today I received the lamp. I decided to go with the Ciotti by Bronx that Julie posted. I have also received the mirror and pillows. Hopefully later today DH can hang the mirror. I wanted to show the lamp, mirror and pillows and confirm that the mirror should be hung 8" above the nightstand. I know DH would prefer to do it only once :)).

    The nightstand is 26.5" H x 19" W.

    The lamp is 26" H by 15" W.

    The mirror from tip to tip is 27" W x 18" W.

The room is so much brighter than these photos show. I've tried to lighten them up, but this is the best I can do.

The mirror is such a great match with the comforters and I don't think it will clash with the blue ceiling when it is hung.

Hi....can you tape off where 36” is on wall from floor behind lamp?

Is the pillow colors working with the comforters? Seems very red?

Let’s get the mirror up and go from there:)

    Ok. 8" from the nightstand.

Only with your help do I get it :))

I wouldn't mind returning the pillows.

I'll post mirror as soon as we hang it. Thank you Julie!

Julie, just to be sure, here is 8" above nightstand. Above the lamp is a small mark for the hanging bracket, and above that is tape showing top of mirror.

here are some Images from my sons wedding it was so pretty...my daughter in law found this women that rents out all these vintage old pieces and creates beautiful centerpieces and than the florist added flowers and succulents..it was something I had never seen before....hard to top for sure!

Julie, I must have missed your sons wedding. Congratulations again. The centerpieces are gorgeous! So different, unlike any centerpieces I’ve ever seen. Definitely hard to top!

Oh Lizzie, the room looks fantastic! I like the yellow side of the pillows but I think maybe the blue lumbar pillows with the buttons will work. Pier 1 also has the same pillow in a honey yellow. That might work as well.

    Hi Kat.
So what do you think would be best, 2 yellow or 2 blue? I can return what I have to Pier 1.

I'm not sure. I think it depends on how bright the yellow is. Would it be too much trouble to get one of each and decide, then go back for a second one?

That’s an idea. I’ll check it out tomorrow.
    Thanks Kat :))
