Pictures needed. What is beside your tv and is your tv and whatever is beside it the same height? How high is your tv. Could you raise it and; if so, would it still need decorations above it?

I like your room the way it is Dana. It is warm and welcoming. I would probably simplify the mantel too, but just by removing the photo frame that leans against the art/mirror (can't tell from here). But that is simply personal preference IMO. Lovely room.

I would put a large beautiful painting on the mantel and have nothing over the tv.

Everything in the room is dark, brown or black except the area rug. It needs some color IMO and i agree with Yayagal. A beautiful painting over your mantel; your fireplace is the feature in the room so draw the eye to it. Remove the metal piece over the tv and put it elsewhere in your home. If possible I would wall mount your tv a few inches up over the console. A few colorful decor accessories from the colors in the fireplace painting would help lighten up the room, too.

You need to make the fireplace the focal point.

The mirror over the fireplace does nothing for the room. Adding art will light up that fireplace lol.

Mounting the tv on the wall over the console will make everything look pleasing to the eye.
