Dinnerware sets

I am in the process of purchasing a everyday dinnerware set, my home is decorated in neutral colors, do the dishes have to be in neutral colors to match the decor?

I agree with Judy...I also prefer white in any style that suits you. First, as Judy said, you can add color/pattern (if you like) with other items...lol, such as paper towels. Second, food just looks better on white dishware...period.

No...your dishware doesn't have to match your decor. However, it can often end up that way due to your own style preferences.

There are some incredibly wonderful antique/vintage sets available in thrift stores and at auctions for a fraction of what you would pay for new of lesser quality. Brides were given large sets which only got used on holidays, if that. Browse around and you’ll find some great deals. Women’s exchanges in Florida are particularly ripe picking grounds.

Have you looked at Fiesta ware. Beautiful colors. We just took a drive today and hopped over the state line to West Virginia to the Fiesta factory outlet store. There was people with shopping carts full of the dishware. They do sell it in other stores. It is a little pricey for a everyday dish $14.00 for a dinner plate.

I use the aspen dinnerware from crate and barrel. Great everyday dishes and easy to replace if you break something.

White is beautiful and timeless but, for me, I like to mix up my place settings since I keep everything else so simple. Get what YOU like! I have both my grandmothers and my husbands grandmothers china. It NEVER gets used though I appreciate them both.

Fiesta, in whatever color(s) you choose is a sound investment. I still have every piece (8 place settings + server ware) that was given to me over 18 years ago when I got married. Only the lid to my sugar bowl has been chipped. My original cobalt has been relegated to our cabin and I now use a mix of colors at home- Slate, Turquoise and Plum but my Plum is going to be replaced with the new color, Mulberry.

A tip- if you can get to one of the outlets in Newell or Flatwoods-look in the "seconds" room. I have so many pieces that I found where the only mistake was a drip or smudge on the bottom of the dish. "Seconds" are a lot less expensive, you just have to examine for where the flaws are.

I hope you find something you love! I love setting my table when we host parties, large or small. I think dishes are a big deal because you do see them so often.

PS-Stay away from handwash only even if you handwash only :)

Get whatever you like and can afford.

I doubt you will be entertaining Martha Stewart.

Besides, sometimes it's fun to have a little excitement in your life!

I highly suggest getting something for your everyday dishes that can be put in the dishwasher and the microwave oven.

So no gold or silver trim decoration.

Ceramic and pottery dishes are easily breakable, high fire porcelain and china cost a little more but are much stronger and are less likely to break because they are fired at a higher temperature.

Everyday dishes--for your use, not for guests. And you can't make that decision alone? Buy whatever you like; who'll know?

Buy the dishes you like. Wear white after Labor Day. Crayon outside the lines once in awhile. The world won't end,I promise.

If you're looking for an every day set of dishes, then without question get white. There is a reason that restaurants only use white dishes .... it's because that's how food looks best. And that is regardless of what colors your home is decorated with.
