You have answered your query - burgundy and gray - the challenge is to find a great gray. NAVY and white accents will work.

OK - now that I see your room, right now you are keyed to the brick, and that works. You can't really go to the cool tones because you have warm tones in the brick wall (unless you want to paint the wall which I can't imagine is a good idea).

What if you just try a different window covering to bring in some fresh life here? Paint the mantel a deeper gray than the stove - classic french gray would be a good one. Add a predominantly navy rug. PB has a great one

You could paint the back of your bookshelves with the glass front the same gold as the walls for a built in look. Take the wood framed things down and paint the frames navy blue and put them back up.

are you suggesting the indigo fabric or the patterned fabric for the curtains?

I'm suggesting the first Hally Denim for curtains - indigo on white - the white against your gold will echo the white woodwork, but the indigo print will start to tell your color story. The darker windowpane plaid will hold up to the deep toned leather as pillows - difficult to put white on dark red leather without some intermediate deep tone. These fabrics will update your room just as it is painted now - add a navy area rug, maybe one of the flat weaves with a white iron trellis in it - overstock has some great buys on those now.
