Curtains that long have to be custom made--no one sells ready-made in that length. See if you can find a local fabricator--they will come to your home, measure, and provide advice on styling, fabric, and details. They will also provide fabric and trim samples for you to see and feel in person. Doing this online is not optimal and you may find it frustrating.

JC Penney does very well priced custom drapes and they have a ton of different beautiful fabrics. I had both Smith and Noble and JC Penney come out to quote and even with a 30% coupon from S&N, JCP was much better priced.

That's great advice, Sara. I would not have thought of JCP doing custom work. I also find S & N very expensive even with the designer discount.

Rethink those drapes. They're way too much. Here are some of my fav Houzz pics. Wow, huh?

Wow.....I took that picture in the model home that we are purchasing and it looked good.

When developer finishes, usually the model home furniture and fixtures are sent to a consignment shop or sold. If u like them so much, see if you can buy them. If u really like them once installed, update them

Think of real drapes that span the bottom windows. Drapes that you can actually close!

This is the actual home I am purchasing. I just wanted a big statement and to elongate and emphasize on the high ceilings

Hang the rods about 15 inches over the bottom windows. You'll probably be able to purchase ready made drapes.

I don't mind having something custom made but I don't want it to look tacky....

Totally not necessary to emphasize high ceilings. They are there and no one can miss them. Your focus should be on the bottom 8 feet of your home. That's what should grab your attention....not 20 feet up ; )

    Think rugs, art, furniture.

I work in a drapery workroom and would not recommend that style. Get some beautiful drapes for the lower windows and hang at about the same height as the current panels. Even if you're doing side panels, make sure they use at least two widths per panel.

I also used JC Penney’s for custom drapes. They do a fabulous job. I would tend to agree with the statements about not putting giant long drapes in. I have a home with 30’ ceilings and soaring windows. There aren’t any window coverings up that high - with the exception of the master bedroom where a wall of windows watches the sunrise every morning. It’s breathtaking, but sometimes you need to sleep past 5 am. Let the windows be the architectural feature.

OK thank you. I will definitely take this into consideration and think of everything else first.
