Need advice on replacing my furniture/redecorating living/dining room!

So I have posted on here before but am coming back with a fresh mind. :)
We moved into our house last year and like it for the most part. I just want to make it look nice to the point where we can have guests over and will have a space to be proud of!
I was obsessing for a while about it because decorating and replacing furniture is expensive and whatever we get is going to stay and no redo ! so it better all coordinate and flow! haha.
Here is our living and dining combo.

our most recent purchase was the couch. it came with the pillows but I am thinking maybe replace them with something a little more modern when we can. I want to replace the coffee table and the dining table.
I posted before about my MIL coming over and replacing our furniture with antiques (the dining set, coffee table and blue wall). Since then boundaries have been set and moving forward.

Right after my last post we found out we are pregnant with baby#2! So now the budget that we had has decreased haha which is why I took a break from thinking about it! So now we will have a 6yo and a baby.

My goals are for it to:
Have a cozy and comforting vibe
Look nice when guests come over for dinner
Be kid friendly but still look nice
Modernize some, have a more sleek vibe (maybe it's the coffee table throwing me off)

I want something that I can light a candle and feel cozy during fall, christmas and with a baby! We are a young couple though so also want it to feel like it!
I really like target style. I know its popular and everything that they come out with/coordinate looks great.

Any opinions would be appreciated!

(the random blue wall-not sure what to do about it. I have the original paint color in my garage (if it's still any good) so I could either paint it back or play up the blue wall with paintings or something. Eventually, would like to paint the whole living and dining space. I'm trying to prioritize right now.

The glass looks terrible. it can come off but for the moment I just have it on there to protect it since it came with the table from the antique store. Could I get away with just replacing the chairs or should I just get an entirely new set?

I like your color scheme and the navy wall!

I'd get a pattern low pile rug for the living room. I'd also get a print for the draperies. I think you could use taller larger lamps for the end table.

to save some money keep the pillows and just get new shams/covers for them. LOL about the MIL... if you are not country then it must go bc it screams farmhouse/country. You can sell both pieces so that's good.

The blue wall just stops the spaces from flowing so I would paint that. I'd pain it the grey of the dining room walls.

I would also consider replacing the fan and purchasing an area rug to cozy up that living space.

Could you paint the black vents on the fireplace white? I kind of liking the brass on the fireplace itself maybe some gold tone end tables? and a cozy oversized ottoman to put your feet up with the baby. I would flank the coffee table/ottoman with chairs.

Don't sell yourself short--the room looks very nice. I even like the accent wall (which I usually am not a fan of), though it looks black on my monitor.

The coffee table is definitely not "sleek", so if sleek is what you were going for I'd definitely think about changing it out.

You seem light on seating. It looks like there is maybe a dark-colored chair in the foreground of your pic--are that and the sofa the only seating? I know it isn't a very big room, but more seating would make it more welcoming for guests (and be appropriate for your growing family in a few years). Maybe you can fit a chair to the left of the fireplace where the black table is.

We had an ottoman, and the reason MIL replaced it is because my then toddler was making a mess. She accidentally spilled apple juice on it...and it was just gross. We do kindof like having somewhere to put our drinks! and she will pull up a chair to the coffee table and start coloring while watching TV. It is a small space and it def. makes seating hard.

Hi! I remember you, Cobgrats in baby 2! When are you due? Our second is due Jan 9!

I think the room is looking much. Better! A few things:
1)consider using high heat spray paint to paint the fireplace surround black over the brass
2)maybe replace the black grates in the fireplace with white in the same style so they stand out less
    3) could you find a better way to hide the wires/etc rather than putting them on that little table? It looks a bit dinky in the scale of everything else
4)still think you need a rug to pull it together! What about stripes?

I like the navy wall. With all your other light colors in that room have you thought about painting the whole room that rich navy color? I understand your lack of love for the dining set but with a new baby on the way can you paint the chairs and table base navy to pull your eye through the area for a little change. You're in Florida so tell people you're going for that rich deep sea feel instead of country. At a minimum I would get rid of the checked cushions. Enjoy!

Well my advice remains the same. Everything depends on budget...I would keep the dining table and pair it with some sleek mcm style chairs. I wouldn't even paint or refinish the table as I think the "patina" adds character.

Your coffee table has to go....

Also, what about a new dining light?

Is the accent wall painted on both sides of the room. I like the accent wall if you’re going to keep it maybe add color to your dining room to make it appear a bigger and farther. If you want to go modern I would replace the whole dining set or have it stained and add upholstery to the chairs. I would also consider getting a taller lamp for the living room add upholstery to your coffee table or get a sleeker one as suggested . The painting on your wall is hung too high. What is the size of your dining and living room. Your dining room looks to me like a 15x12

Hey guys! so I wasnt intentionally not replying...my phone got stolen from a department store (I accedentally set it down, lol!) So I got a new phone and had forgotten my login info (I was automatically logged in)

I have still been searching for inspiration. I shouldnt be, but I am still so embarrassed of my house. A lot of it is because due to indecisiveness I have not replaced the furniture I cant stand. I feel like the things I pin on pinterest or save to the ideabooks still just dont fit my living room. I feel like because of the rectangleness of the room the dining room and living room almost have to match/coordinate. It also has to match the floors and the taupe wall color since those arent going anywhere anytime soon.

In the ideal world I like shiny dark furniture, especially a dining table but in my head those are all diffrent dining rooms, or open dining rooms that match the kitchen. When you walk in its BAM living and dining room. So I feel like it's just making due with the space. I'm just not really a big fan of my house layout in general, but I am embarrassed to have people over.. My husband absolutely does not want to spend a lot of money on it. We were in a place to, but when we could I couldnt make up my mind.

I found this on an Instagram bloggers. Her house really resembles ours, the couch against the window wall, the open living and dining room. I like how her coffee table and dining table match each other, it looks very coordinated. And I also like the black coffee table top with the black on her TV (in the same place as ours).

But she posts links to her furniture and I def cant afford that or I'd just be copying lol! I wish I could just copy someone by the book but these bloggers all have a diffrent budget than I do!

Hers does have a bit of a farmhouse vibe, but I like it because it is modern. I also like the dining table because it is not cloth chairs and with kids that doesnt always end the best! The style though farmhouse is very popular right now and modernized, from what I can tell.

I like walking into target and seeing the target style. I know its modern and popular.

I just want to make sure the dining room matches the living room. But I'm in a play or safe kind of vibe.

Rooms to go and ashley is more in our budget, cheaper furniture sets and financing options. I like the ones at world market, wayfair etc. but they can be pricey and no financing..

    This is that bloggers page:

I think you'll be fine with a similar table/coffee table. I can't tell you how much I dislike sitting on a chair with no padding...to me, it says "eat and get out"... :) so I'm not much help there...

Ignore the walls for now, at least. They're neutral and painting will come at some point...

If you want to share your budget, or tell us where you are so we can look on Craigslist for you (I get that not everyone is into pre-loved furniture...)..

In the mean time, I'll look for some tables online.

Please don't forget, too, that people come to see you and not your house...if they DO come to see your house, then they don't get to come back for a visit, right?
