In addition to the usual places -- BBSs, nurseries, etc -- you might try garage/yard sales, estate sales, or thrift stores like GoodWill or Salvation Army. Even if the container is not a pot per se, should you find a suitable container you could drill or melt drainage holes into it.

If cost is not too much of a consideration, look into MICA BONSAI POTS. Google the name for many sources. These pots are pricey, but are built to last for years. They are perfect for displaying and staging Adeniums with spreading roots.

Plastic pots, while light and cheap, eventually oxidize and become brittle and weak.

Cant really find anything deep enough. The plant is over 5 feet tall. I would think I would need at least a foot or a foot and a half deep to hold it down. I will only briefly looked at the the site though. Maybe there is something in there I can use. Love the pots

If you want cheap, I buy the large garish plastic pots from walmart and paint them with camo colored rustoleum paint for plastic. It’s a nice stone color that blends in with my stone wall and concrete planters. Have some that have held up well for 6 or 7 years outdoors.

Cheap? Rubbermade (or insert favourite brand here) totes are sturdy, designed to hold lots of heavy stuff and very stable. Ugly. Garbage cans you cut the top off are also very strong and will hold the kind of weight you want too. Absolutely hideous is a drawback.

I recently found some beautiful blue ceramic pots at our local home depot. They are made by Pennington, and has 3-4 large drainage holes, glazed and frost resistant. They have 15" diameter regular planter, 15" dia. bowl, and 19" dia. planter. I bought 2-3 for each of the sizes, I planted my japanese maples in these. very sturdy and beautiful.

Never said cheap. I am looking for something nice. Money is not the issue, its weight. I need something that will hold up, is light weight, and shallower for a adenium.

Plus the one is about 5 feet tall. I need big. Like 22 inches plus. Its in a 22 inch now. Over 5 gallons. So I need big. I take it out in the summer and all that dirt is heavy. So I need light weight. No ceramic. I see tons of ceramic pots all over.

Saypoint beat me to it on the plastic whiskey half barrels. To make your life easier with moving them, get a sturdy plant "caddy" with wide casters like --> this. I would place the empty pot on the caddy then fill it and plant.

thanks, I've had that one for 22 years. Its 27 years old now. I do have a 4 wheel cart I use to move it but dont keep it under there. I have to go up a step on my deck and over a door wall track. Being in the construction trade I know how to move heavy stuff. Just usually not this fragile. Was trying to find a nice shallow "adenium" pot like I see folks having. Thought I would get tons of links to where folks buy their post. I'll get around to yahooing it soon enough. I'm sure what I am looking for is out there. Thanks for the responses though.

Home Depot's nursery pots are really sturdy and don’t look half bad. I use them for herbs. I’ve had some for five years and they’re still going strong.

I have 65 pots many of which are gorgeous Mexican hand painted which I found (actually 2 more today) at HomeGoods. The really big ones mostly lightweight resin from Costco. HomeGoods has the best selection and nicest pots. Most on sale NOW!!

two 22 inch pots for $30? thats crazy they must be not to sturdy. Its so hard to order online without seeing and feeling them in person. Home depot stops at about 20 inche, no home goods around me. All the ones I am seeing online are like $250-$350. They are fiberglass which is nice but one 22 inch pot can be way bigger than another 22 inch pot. I was seeing some that were just huge. Way to big. Others are just flimsy. Having a hard time nailing down or even finding something. Really cant believe there is not a store or site that has more fiberglass or resin pots. Everyone has heavy pottery. Found what I think looks like a nice one but for $250 I'm just not going to buy sight unseen. Dont mind paying the money but I want to see what I am getting first.

have anything 22-24 or 26 inch round AND 12 to 20 inches tall. solid that wont bend if I try to bend the pot. Looking for fiberglass I guess at this point its the only thing I see that will last. I have been going through a lot of pots and was looking to get one last real nice pot to keep the plant in for several years. Just no where to buy one. In person. Ohwell off to buy a hydrangea and possibly a tree or fruit tree.

It's the wrong time of year, but Big Lots had some nice looking fiberglass planters earlier in the season. I got one that looks a bit like hammered copper. It was about $20.

If you need a local source, maybe try an industrial cleaning supply store or possibly a restaurant supply store (which incidentally have the best garden items! I use the giant ice scoops for scooping soil).

yea, I thought about making one out of stainless since I'm a sheet metal worker but think it would be too heavy. The dirt alone weighs a ton.

Not exactly a "pot" but have you ever explored the possibilities of making your own, custom-sized/shaped containers from Hyper-tufa? There are many sites where you can get instructions on how to make containers from this cement mixture. The ingredients are easily found. Cement can be dyed, textured, carved, etc. into something unique, and the containers look nicer as they age.

Not sure this will be helpful but ... “one” can get a decent not too deep nursery style plastic pot at a hydroponics store (much better prices for plastic pots ime) ... and then put it inside something that looks better. Many sizes.

Of course... that means finding something that is the right size, that you like the look of, to use as a cache pot, which seems to be the problem?

Now my first link takes you right to the pot I was talking about. $289 though. I ended up getting one from home depot for $35. Not as nice probably but hard to buy sight un seen.

I bought planters that are very nice here on the Houzz website and on Wayfair. I ordered planters that are supposed to be ok if left out doors all year. Many cheap planters get brittle and crack after winter. I want something that will last for years.

the tall one and the one next to it I grew from seed. Both are 8 years old now I believe. the one in the green pot and the one next to it I have owned for 22 years now they were 5 and 3 years old respectively. So 27 and 24 years old. The one in the red pot I bought from a local store maybe 15 years ago or so. The small pachy I bought from tracy on this forum.

Nice plants!!! Marie's Dr always look good in the oriental pots. But, hard to find in my area.
