Electrolux or Frigidaire full fridge/full freezer Help!

Hi There! I'm about to embark on a kitchen remodel that has been literally years in the making. My husband and I bought my family home and my mom, after losing my dad five years ago, is living with us. We are all very much into cooking and baking, and to be honest, my mom might be a food hoarder... SO, we find ourselves needing a BIG ol' fridge. We are putting our money into a high end oven, and so subzero fridge/freezer is totally out of the question. Which leads me to the dilemma... Frigidaire or Electrolux? I know one is a parent company, so a lot of similarities. My issue is that I'm terrified of the online reviews... I don't want to plan on a giant hole in the cabinetry if the appliances are going to expire (RIP) in 3 years. I understand that the online review world can be a pretty dark place, but I'm so cautious about buying from this brand(s). Anyone have any insight on these two models? The differences between pro and gallery for Frigidaire, the differences between kitchen and icon for electrolux icon. Here, I understand one is the more "lux" option, but what are the nitty gritty differences? Woosh, okay, I think that's it for now... THANK YOU in advance for any insights :)

If you buy from Costco with their Citi Visa you'll get 4 years of warranty on whatever you pick not just one.

What size are you looking for? Built in or free standing?

We've had our all fridge and all freezer (Frigidaire Pro) for about 18 months, and I freaking adore them. I preferred the handles on the Professional to the gallery, so that was worth the upgrade, but the differences between the Electrolux and Frigidaire were nominal enough for it not to be worth it for me.

Cpartist, the fridge is 32 and the freezer is 32... so it’s pretty huge... there’s a trim piece that makes it look like one set... it would be surrounded by cabinetry so I’m not sure if that makes it built in...

Hillside house, thank you so much!! Did you have any of the noise issues that fidlfreek experienced? I’m leaning towards the Frigidaire pro like you have! Do your appliances all match?

No, I haven't had issues with noise. And no, my appliances don't match: I have Miele dishwashers, Thermador wall ovens, and a Bertazzoni range top.

Find a showroom where you can look at them in person before you decide, and you'll know which one is right for you. :)

We had our Frigidaire pair for over 5 years. Per GW advice I bought the 4 year warranty which turned out to be a good buy as the freezer has needed repairs once. No issues with the fridge. We are a family of 4 and love love our twin pair. I have both in my kitchen and love the convenience of not having to think about what I can fit in the fridge. I buy a lot of fresh vegies and it keeps them along with plenty of room for drinks and lunches. I am currently doing a remodel where I designed one wall to contain the twin pair. I have the Thermador gas range, an Electrolux dishwasher, a Miele steam combi oven and a Miele convection oven. No they don't all match but I am one to cook in my kitchen and figure that the next owner will replace them all anyways.

I wonder if I just have a lemon? I had zero problems with noise with my original set in the older model. :(

We're looking at the same options, and the biggest difference I've found between the Frigidaire Pro and the Electrolux is the interior shelving - it feels a little more sturdy in the Electrolux, drawers have wheels for smoother operation, etc.. If you're concerned about being able to replace, you can trim them up to a taller height with either the trim kit or via your cabinetmaker so that you have the option of replacing with 30" columns from another line later.

I’m very interested in the columns as well. Does anyone know of any stores in the NJ NYC area that has either the Fridgeaire or Electrolux models on display?

Fidlfreek, it seems like ppl either don’t really have problems or it’s super noisy... im not known for my stellar luck so that’s what makes me nervous! Are you still within warranty?

Thanks everyone for all the responses! Much appreciated!!!

We are most likely going with a bluestar 48 oven, the Frigidaire columns, I was forced to buy a new dishwasher about a year ago because our other one lost the will to live, it’s a black stainless kitchen aide... and then I’m thinking either a microwave drawer or under cabinet micro.

Hillside and rhay, your kitchens both sound fantastic!!! Would love any pics you might have handy ;)

Kristin s, great tips, thank you! I haven’t been able to lay my eyes on an Electrolux in person so that’s the main reason the Frigidaire is in the lead ;)

I’m definitely going to get the 5 year warranty on the fridge/freezer!
