Countertops, floor and backsplash for Ikea Lerhyttan gray

Seeking advice for countertop, floor, and backsplash options for my Ikea Lerhyttan gray kitchen remodel. Below is a floor plan and some images from the Ikea planning tool.

BACKGROUND: House is a midcentury ranch in a middle class, Midwest neighborhood. There are decent wood floors throughout the house except in the kitchen. The kitchen floor is pergo from a previous owner and I have no idea what is underneath it. If it's wood that matches the rest of the house I'll be happy to get it refinished, but I suspect it's something less beautiful. We plan on living in the house for at least a few more years, but resale value is important to us. Most of the houses around us haven't been updated since they were built in the 1950's and 1960's, and like I said, it's a very middle class neighborhood, so anything super high end wouldn't really be worth the investment.

FLOORING

I think we'll probably go with tile. I've gone to Lowe's and picked up a sample ofAmerican Olean Tranquil Stone Warm Gray to see how it looks with our cabinet doors (photo below.) I'm worried about it being too washed out/white/gray. There's about 200 sq ft of flooring in the area. I could always break it up a bit with rugs/runners that add some color.

COUNTERTOPS

I want something low-maintenance, high durability. Probably laminate, quartz, or solid surface. I like the look of solid white countertops with these cabinets (as seen in ikea stock photo below,) but again I have a small fear of the room being too white/sterile. I've also seen cabinets similar to mine with a dark black countertop and that's ok, I'd just want to make sure it looks ok with whatever floor I go with.

BACKSPLASH

I don't want subway tile. I'm open to 4x4 white tiles, a mosaic that matches the floor, or any other ideas you might have. I don't want it to go all the way up the wall, probably only 12 inches above the counter and higher behind the range.

NOTE ON COLOR: Most of the house is neutral with color added in accents like paint, textiles, and plants. I know I've mentioned that I'm afraid the kitchen will be too white or washed out, but if I decorate with colored accents, is that problem solved?

Thanks in advance for any help. I truly appreciate it.

MCM is about natural materials. Or at least the appearance of natural materials. Neither of your choices would really be at home in that style. No depressing grays. Real woods. Slab doors. Slate. Etc. That is MCM.

Is Lerhyttan back in production? I wanted to do it a few months ago and it was pulled due to issues with paint peeling. For what it's worth, when I was thinking of Lerhyttan, I chose Cambria Ironsbridge quartz to go with it. I still got the quartz, but with a Bodbyn kitchen. It's gorgeous

Sophie, I'm not going for MCM. I just mentioned that my house was a midcentury ranch to get a feel for the build of the rest of the house. It was built in 1957 and is a ranch, in my area there are a lot of homes in the same style, but it's missing all of the cool midcentury character I think of when I think of MCM. If I had to define the style/decor of the rest of the house it's more of a natural, nordic decor.

Jules, Lerhyttan is not back in production yet, but I bought the cabinets back in April when the sale was still on and have been storing them while working on other projects.

newbigginggirl, there is no upstairs, we do have a finished basement family room and full bathroom.

If that's the case, are you sure you want to install them? If they had to pull it out of production it was probably a significant issue with the finish.

From what I understand they stopped production because certain batches had problems with the lacquer adhering to the doors. People were able to very easily scratch paint off doors with just their fingernails. I've been only affected certain production batches and I tested some of my doors and they seem ok. If I have problems down the road, well, that's what the warranty is for and they are supposed to be releasing improved products in 2019... but we'll see if that actually happens. I was considering the Bodbyn before they released Lerhyttan and I really prefer Lerhyttan and now that I have it I'm willing to take that chance. BTW, you are right, the Cambria Ironsbridge is beautiful!

Good luck, I'm sure it will be gorgeous. I had to get the white Bodbyn and still prefer the grey of Lerhyttan. The grey Bodbyn was too dark for my space. They literally pulled it out of production a few days before my delivery, so I chose and bought everything else to go with the grey. Thankfully it all looks fine with the white, but what a pain in the ass. Ikea also comped me the difference between the Lerhyttan and Bodbyn, as Bodbyn was slightly more expensive. Post pics when you're done!

dobbylovegood I'd love to see pics of what you ended up with. I'm considering Caesarstone Nobel gray or pure white with the lerhyttan fronts.

We're in the middle of renovating right now. We actually got a great deal on Formica Federal Cornerstone solid surface so we went with that. I'll post pics when it's completed.

Do you have enough countertop near the refrigerator to set things down when taking them out or putting them in?

@dobbylovegood, I am converting a cargo van into a campervan and am using Ikea's Lerhyttan light gray cabinets for my kitchen galley. I have pulled my hair out trying to find a nice neutral paint color to complement the creamy/silvery gray with reddish undertones of the Lerhyttan light gray cabs. I have finally settled on Clare paints Beiging color for the walls, which is a neutral mid tone beige with reddish undertones--not too yellow, too orange, too pink or too green. It looks like a nice warm neutral alongside the Lerhyttan cabs, just colorful enough to not be boring and just dark enough (LRV 60) to not wash out in strong sunlight. For trim and ceiling color I am using Clare's Whipped color, a nice warm creamy color that is not overtly yellow. For countertops I am using Formica laminate in the Sea Salt color, which is a light creamy white background speckled with small bits of warm gray and neutral beige tones. I am using Liberty brushed brass hardware on my cabinets. My flooring will be Lonseal Lonmarine Wood vinyl flooring in the Antique and Ivory pattern, which has a light grayish oak woodgrain with light creamy white narrow stripes. You probably have already finished your kitchen but I wanted to post this in case others are looking for good matches for Lerhyttan light gray cabs. By the way, another person color-matched the Lerhyttan light gray cab color and found it is very close in LRV and RGB values to Sherwin-Williams Knitting Needles paint color, which is a soft warm silvery gray with reddish undertones.
