Deborah, budgie Macgyver that miraciously recovered is still going ok. For now. You´re correct about diatomaceous Earth, thats one of the things that kille them thats what a company was spreading in my bedroom 2 weeks ago. On monday they´ll return to spray other rooms as well. I Think diatomaceous Earth isnt dangerous for animals and thats good cause Vejle gets in in his fur when he´s lying at those places.

Rosecanadian, Kristine thanks, yes you can heat things on 50 degrees like in the dryer to kill them and then put all the "Clean" things in plastics bags for storage, thats also what im doing. Going to buy a steamer today too. You dont know how much clothes, other things you got until you´re moving or getting these bugs. Im still in the process of throwing things/washing clothes, its going slowly. Inbetween im "gardening" plus taking it easy. I actually like the Nostalgie flower, its been changing colour.

Thanks Svetlana! Nostalgie’s bloom looks huge! I like the pretty dark pink edging.

Wishing you good luck with your bug infestation problem!

    Ann

Svetlana, I agree with Ann, your nostalgie is beautiful with its darker edging.

Titian, have you been posting any pics of roses? I suppose you have winter right now, when are roses flushing down under? I did live in NZ for 9 months, like 12 years ago. Was in a relationship with a Kiwi.

    Sorry for late replies...

Carol: I really can't pick favourites but I wish I could hybridize a rose that would have the flower shape of Clara's Choice, the fragrance of Lady Emma Hamilton and the colour of Diablesse de Mers (pic):

Deborah: I don't know if Nostalgie is called something else in the US but it's not the same rose as Cherry Parfait (although they are indeed similar).

Svetlana: I commented on Nostalgie in the Swedish forum...

Today, at our annual Peach Palooza, we sold over 78,000 pounds of the most beautiful , delicious peaches. I oersonly weighed out about 1500 pounds.

We will do it at least 2 more Saturdays. Good time

    last modified: 7 years ago

We fill the parking lot with about 200 bins that hold 500 lbs each. We sell them for .39 a pound and let people grab them up

We grow them in the orchards where I work

Yay, Earth Angel is finally strutting her stuff.

    last modified: 7 years ago

Earth Angels looking good Kristine! Strut, strut EA! :-) Cool stuff with your annual Peach Palooza! Sounds like you have fun!

    Very nice rose photos Svetlana!

    LOL on the tutus Carol!

Today was a nice sunny day! :-)

Sadly our Julia Child dropped bottom leaves at a fast rate today because of blackspot! Shows how bad our area is with most roses...All our other roses are ok...

While deadheading I snapped this pic... YJ wasp looking down on its prey!

Svetlana, awful about your bedbugs, and all the work and upheaval that's been involved in getting rid of them.

It's supposed to be winter here, for another month, but it has been too hot to sit in the sun in the middle of the day for quite some time. I haven't posted any photos, as my camera broke, and I still haven't managed to pin my son down to show me how to transfer photos from my phone to my laptop. There are some roses blooming sporadically. Mme Lombard has had some beautiful winter blooms, and Gen Schablikine has had some beauties too. Summer Memories is never without a bloom or two. It's been very dry here too, but nothing to what you've had in Sweden. Have you had any more rain? New Zealand is a beautiful country. Whereabouts were you?

I am in the middle of redoing a semi-circular raised bed. It had a monstrous Mme Isaac Pereire, that I cut down last winter and poisoned because it gets every disease, but it regrew, and because it had a few lovely blooms, I let it grow. It reached the same monstrous size in a year, with no further blooms. I have just finished cutting it down again, and will not let it regrow this year. I planted artemisia here, which has filled almost the whole bed, but doesn't look that good - lots of dead stuff hanging down, so I'm removing it too. Mme Lombard and Gen S are in this bed. Gen S, I've been told by a fellow Sydneysider, grows 20' wide and 10' tall! I've ordered a few perennials, and Renae to spill over the wall.

Lilyfinch, you have some lovely roses - and a lovely garden. I'm an especial fan of Crocus Rose.

Lisa, I'm glad you've still got quite a bit to show, despite the terrible heat you've been having.

Carol, my son's girlfriend was the first to spot a fish - 3 days ago. I've seen a couple since. I guess they're over the worst of their trauma.

Oh I see. We lived in Howick which is near Auckland. So your roses are blooming now, how about when you got summer, dec-febr? Just curious cause we have opposite seasons.

Svetlana, the biggest flushes are in Spring and Autumn. There are some blooms in Summer, though not that much.

92 degrees ,humid but dry here today... lol

    Have a great day everyone!

Diane, I grow Meadow Rue, Thalictrum, here and did in Alaska too. You would love it too. I'm surprised it does do so well in the hot summer here here too. zzzone, I have Falstaff, and like it too. Cori Ann's were fabulous too. Just expect taller and upright in your planting positions.

Lisa your scabiosa is gorgeous! I used to grow some and I don't remember why I didn't keep the seeds. Funny how you have sweet peas in flower in summer and mine are flowering too in my winter!

Horrible smoke today, in the hazardous zone, so no outside work today.

Ebbtide continues to impress. I need a bigger pot or a space in the ground. .

Darn it, phone isn't picking up the deep purple color

How awful for you. I feel the same sometimes, the right colour isnt caught on camera. The shape of your Ebbtide is very nice thou.

Beverly decided to eek out this pretty bloom. Keep it up and you may get to stick around

Dark Desire is getting better as well.

    Great photos Kristine! Nice!

    You too Svetlana great pics!

We had three days of 90's with high humidity but dry...lol... Today the rain starts again and back to the mid 80's and lower...

Earthsong is a favorite of mine this year Kristine!

Our Julia Child is slowly becoming engulfed in blackspot so will probably lose most of its leaves...Our neighbors Sparkle and Shine rose is still going strong...(one of S&S parents is Julia Child..) S&S might be a better rose for here no spray???...Might have to make a change...??? Who knows?...

Just saw the cost of fighting all of the fires is over 100 million dollars. Geeze. That amount may double before they are out.

100 million oh wow! I pray the wildfire areas get rain soon!

Horrible fires! It’s so scary. None are too close to me, but I’m sure it’s only a matter of time. Hang in there guys! Gorgeous blooms! Mine are mostly slowing down in the heat. Jim, I have seen Sparkle and Shine blooming in the Central Valley at over 100F, with no fading. It does look like a good rose. Lisa

I was trying to post pictures. It wasn't submitted. I hate Houzz.

    I'll catch up later. :)

    Carol

Kristine - your Ebb Tide is pretty! I'm glad your making progress with Dark Desire and even Savanah.

Here are some DA roses from the past few days.

Lily - I have Belle Story too, starting her second year. Bees love this rose!

Carol - I finally experienced fragrance with The Alnwick Rose! I'm not sure I would call it raspberries but it's something like it and I loved the scent.

Kristine - Teasing Georgia has doubled in size since the spring. I hope you have a big space for this rose!

Prospero - I've never had this many blooms on one spray! The blooms are lasting surprisingly long. This is from a week ago and it's virtually unchanged.

Charles Rennie Macintosh having a good second flush. CRM has a bit of disease in the first flush but is very healthy by mid-summer.

Scarborough Fair with her pretty stamens is a bug magnet for the cucumber beetle. I've had a hard time getting a good photo but they seemed to have left this spray alone.

Leander looking very peachy in the morning sun.

James Galway's first year and looking ruffly.

Jude the Obscure ready to bloom.

    Pat Austin, lovely and fragrant.

    I hope these photos post!

    Ann

Ann, you have so many gorgeous roses. Jude is so beautiful

I have a large space for Teasing Georgia but it is currently occupied by Flamenco Rosita. She is very wide but not particularly tall. But dang it, she is looking so beautiful, I hate to move her but she just doesnt show up in the corner.

Wow Ann! Nice clean blooms! Awesome!

Ann your roses are of supreme quality!

Ann, those are stunning blooms, and the photos are so good. I love the color of each rose. One rose that stood out to me is Belle Story--she is perfection, and your photo shows the stamens and center so beautifully. We don't get to see that rose very often. Another rose of yours that I love is Leander. I don't think I've seen anyone on the forums show a photo of that beautiful rose. Is he usually more pink? The color is gorgeous.

Kristine, your Beverly and Dark Desire are beauties, too, and so is Jim's Earthsong. Kristine, I loved the peaches photos. You really lifted a lot of those fruits and got your exercise that day. I wish I could have been there to buy some of those Harry & David's peaches!

I'm sorry your Julia is giving you black spot trouble. I hope you don't give up on her, Jim. It sounds like you're in for some nice weather--I wish I could say the same for us.

Let's see...tomorrow it will be 105F, followed by two days of 106F. We've endured high 90s-100s since the first of July, and no rain since May. The roses started blooming quite a bit a few weeks ago, but things burn up pretty fast. Of course, there are the lazy nappers that refuse to bloom. Some of you might be interested in who the heat lovers are around here: Julia Child, of course; Augusta Luise--oh, my that rose loves the heat, and she's pushing 6 feet tall; Young Lycidas and Boscobel; poor Golden Celebration just blooms and blooms, and those poor things just incinerate; Evelyn is always good when it's hot; surprisingly, Munstead Wood, both big plant and baby are doing well and blooming nicely, as are both Twilight Zones. That's enough, for now. I'd say Julia Child and Augusta are the stars, and I'm surprised about AL. She's not good in the cold, though.

More lousy news when the deer struck again, and chowed on all the roses in the back yard beds for the umpteenth time. They seem to know when the roses have a lot of blooming going to make their dastardly move. Rouge Royale was covered with blooms, and they ate every one of them. I had tall bamboo stakes massed around RR, and the deer still managed to somehow get those blooms. I've yet to take a single photo of Rouge Royale this year.

The National Interagency Fire Center is located in Boise. All the fire fighters from all over the US, plus foreign countries come to the center for assignments and equipment. The center coordinates it all. A few days ago, 142 fire fighters arrived from Australia and New Zealand to fight the big fire in northern California. They had to learn about US equipment before heading out--it's a little different rom Aussie stuff, I guess. Trish, thank you, and your country for these guys. We appreciate it. Last year we had Canadians helping with our fires. We still have smoke from the Cal fire here, but Idaho's fires are pretty far away and not blowing our direction. Diane

Here are a few odds and ends that are blooming. Diane

    Twilight Zone

    Baby TZ
Baby TZ again. Just look at the dry cement dirt.

Quiz: Is this Twilight Zone or ? The color is a little off for TZ, but it has those telltale white spots that TZ has.

    Tamora

    Hollyhocks

I know you've been waiting a long time for this one--hops. They're twice as wide and fat now. This was a few weeks ago.

Oh Diane, those ruddy deer. TZ looks lovely. Love the contrast with JC, and your hollyhocks are fine, upstanding powderpuffs. I wish I could accept the thanks for the firefighters, but I have nothing to do with it. I hope they get those fires under control soon - it must be devastating.

Ann, as Diane said your photos and roses are something to behold. I love Leander, not that I've ever seen it in person. There's a beautiful photo of it in my Botanica of Roses book. I used to stare at that photo regularly.

I had a few perennials arrive yesterday, and unpacked them and left them outside. This morning I was busy with a man in my son's annex here, discussing blinds. I didn't open the door for Rosie - not deliberately, just didn't think of it. When I came back in to my house, she had just started on one of the plants - dirt on the carpet, and the leafless twigs of an aster lightly chewed! Naughty girl - sheer spite for not being allowed in! Thank goodness I wasn't any longer, or it would have been $76 down the drain.

Svetlana - oh what a chore! That would drive mental! Thank goodness you're getting it taken care of with a company and that you have the personality to see it through to its conclusion. Way to go! Good thing your bird is okay. :) Oh, wow!! I love your roses!!! You have chosen roses that have such wonderful color to their flowers!!

Henrik - oh that color is swoon-worthy!!! I've never seen anything like it before!!! Oh Wow!!!

Kristine - I would love to be able to taste fresh peaches!! I bet they taste way better than store bought ones. Your Earth Angel looks so lovely!!! The petals are exquisite! Stay safe from the smoke. I really love that big Beverly bloom! My Dark Desire went to live at a friend's house. Don't miss it at all. Your blooms are lovely, though. :) One hundred million dollars! Oh my goodness...

Jim - I'm surprised that you have any roses after all that rain...a little bs is a small price to pay. That wasp shot was incredible!! How in the world did you have a camera at the perfect time!! Your geranium looks soooo blue!! Is it really blue? We just get purple ones here. Oh wow!!! Look at those pink roses!! They look sooo beautiful!! And your grass!!!!!!! My brownish-green grass is nothing in comparison!!! I guess all that rain did a good job for your grass!

Lilyfinch - yup, that cartoon was perfect for Jim. :) I love your roses!! I especially love your Belle Story and Crocus rose!!!

Trish - your MIP sounds horrible...but what a will to live!! Would love to see the real color of your pretty Ebb Tide blooms. I have the same problem and no solution. :)

Ann - !!! - what gorgeous pictures!!! I'm so glad you're getting some fragrance my The Alnwick Rose! And that is a stunning picture of its bloom!!! How big is that flower? Looks huge!! Belle Story is divine!! I love your Leander...swoon! And Prospero...a superstar!!! Sigh...such lovely pictures. :)

Diane - it sounds like you were getting some amazing flowers! And then those darned deer come again! I guess there are no answers/no solutions. Darn, darn, darn! And, those fires...God bless! I love your TZs...no one gets the purple like you do!! Swoon! Love your Hollyhocks too!

Well, temps are getting to unheard of temps. I've never lived in a place that is going to be as hot as it is this week!!! I can't believe it's going to be this hot!!! Tues 31C, Wed 35 and Friday will be 37C/97 F. I can't believe it!!

Okay, we'll see if these pictures load.

Here is Zaide...this rose has such charm!!!

Pink Peace...it has about 8 large blooms, which isn't bad considering the leaves still haven't recovered.

Parfum de Grasse - I love the lighter underside! This bush is still struggling with having poor leaves.

Peter Mayle - recovering from a poor spring.

Paradise - I love the color on this rose! I've almost gotten rid of it for about 5 years...I'm glad I kept it. :)

    Carol

Carol, beautiful roses.roses.I love your Pink Peace and Zaide is one I am still considering. I love my Fiji so much and I hear that Zaide has the same health.

Carol, very nice rose blooms! YES 90's-97 degrees is hot for your zone Carol...

Nanadoll, really enjoyed your photos! What are hops Nanadoll???

Very humid here... Makes the mid to upper 80's feel like its in the 100's...lol

Our Julia Child is out front (side) where people can see her so I want those 3 roses in that bed to look there best... MOTH has not disappointed...Plum Perfect needs more time to grow so still being avaluated... Julia Child is now 70% engulfed with Blackspot and dropping leaves at a fast rate....JC also dies way back here after winter.....SO most likely I'll replace JC with a Sparkle and Shine rose and see how that goes...Our neighbor planted a 3-5 gallon Sparkle and Shine in June its already as big as our Julia and it has no BS...SO might just try it next year...

    Carefree Celebration today...

    ES with a white streak...lol

Kristine - Thanks so much! :) Zaide is a rose that didn't suck during my improper fertilizing. The leaves stayed nice whilst other roses succumbed. For me, it's rather narrow. It has such charm! And the fragrance is really nice...it improves as the flowers age.

Jim - very nice!! It's hard to believe that Julia Child is performing poorly. But she does have to suffer through extreme situations where you are.

It's going to be a scorcher this week!!! Yesterday I sat in my lawn chair and had a rubbermaid large tub that I filled with water. I sat and put my legs into the container...the cold water was up to my knees. It was wonderful. :) Then I dropped the dogs' balls into the water and they had to dunk their heads to get them. Over and over. So we kept cool and had fun. :)

Carol, those peaches were and are delicious! We will be doing peach palloo's of this Saturday and possibly next there are so many peaches. They are averaging 12 to 16 oz each . They are beautiful and juicy.

Some shots around the yard this morning before the smoke drops back in.

Sigh a few of my flowers got powdery mildew or spider mites since last week but i have no time to care for them. And too tired. These pics are nothing special but can post them anyway. This orange rose is not looking as it should, at all.

    Are they visible?

Kristine - You make those peaches sound uber delicious!!! Yum!! Lovely colors on your lovely roses!

Svetlana - your roses are beautiful!! Whatever you're doing keep doing it. And your roses will survive...do what you need to do in the house.. the roses will be fine. :)
