sealing wood vanity top in open shower bathroom

I’ve stained this great piece of oak and will be using it as the vanity top in an open shower bathroom we just put in. While not to much water from the shower will get on it I do want to make sure it is properly sealed. My problem is that I want to keep the no sheen look. I’ve used Waterlox before but don’t like the sheen is leaves. Is there a product I can use that will keep the look and feel of the wood without giving it a sheen and still protect it?

Keep a coat of Minwax from the can on it and it should be fine.

It’s not an appropriate design if it results in your vanity getting wet. Period. You either need a curtain or door for the shower, or you need a smaller vanity that won’t be so close to the shower, or you need a complete lately different design. Wetrooms must contain waterproof elements, not water resistant.

Sophie—that’s pretty unhelpful. Wood countertops in kitchens take much more of a beating than this application ever will.

I've done wood counters in a bathroom, coated with many coats of poly and no problems.

I'd be concerned about the checks in that piece of wood.

We used Rubio mono oil on our custom Douglas fir bathroom vanity for similar reasons. It was recommended to us by our cabinet maker. I can't send you a specific link to the product he used because he purchased and applied the product before installing our vanity.
