Blank Slate: Hall & Stairway in need of a new light fixture & art

Hi everyone, I'm looking for some ideas... we decided to make the investment of having hardwood installed to our staircase & upstairs hallway, we also added a lovely wool runner onto the stairs. I want this area to be interesting and feel put together, but right now it feels a little bare. I was thinking a pendant light would look nice with the high ceiling of the stairway, and some kind of art work or object added to the right corner of the first picture but would appreciate any kind of design/decorating advice!

For reference: Our townhouse is in a 'colonial' style community but built in the 1980's - the interior has hints of 80's design here & there. The walls are Sherwin Williams Antique White, trim is Benjamin Moore Cotton Balls. Ceiling height is 8' tall in the upstairs hallway.

Also unsure if there is a better window treatment for this area. The blinds are functional but basic. Any recommendations here would be helpful too!

Maybe a lantern? This one isn't straight lines but I love those as well.

You could also use a single shade pendant.

Not sure your thoughts on wooden woven roman shades or even fabric roman shades but I think something like that would give your window more interest.

Thank you for the suggestions! I hadn't considered a shade pendant, I like that the one you shared provides some height in the overall lamp design, something like that would provide a lovely soft glow.

could you do a set of 3 square framed photos stacked in the corner of the hallway?

I would move the mirrow to the wall in question, and buy a tall/narrow piece of artwork for the wall the mirror is currently on. It could be colorful to add some spice to the space, or textured (think wood or metal) if you want to stay neutral.

The wool runner is made by Prestige Mills, USA, the design is "Findley" and the color is "Mineral". We had it installed by C. G. Coe & Son in Bethesda, MD. who did an amazing job. I'm really happy with it - it feels great to walk on and like its going to hold up & wear well.

My cat likes it as well! He was sliding all over the bare wood stairs when he'd run up & down them playing... now he can run up the stairs with reckless abandon!

Thank you Sammie J for the recommendation of moving the mirror! I think art will look great on the wall next to the bathroom from the view of the stairway. We're eventually going to redo that bathroom (tile the shower specifically) with a light aqua blue handmade subway tile that we found on sale. The bathroom is visible from the stairway with the door open, so I'll have to keep that in mind when looking at art!

a quick photoshop for you to squint your eyes & imagine - I'm sure you could choose more colorful pictures or a single vertical panel or canvas, but I like the idea of some kind of artwork next to that door as well
