Florida Condo - What paint colors would be good for this space

last modified: 7 years ago

Just purchased Sarasota penthouse unit with very nice crown moulding and high ceilings. Travertine floors through out. Purchased a Tommy Bahama dinning set and related furnishings. What color should we paint the walls? Kitchen will be opened up with wall removal and upgraded galley kitchen. Chandelier will be replaced.

Thanks!

I am hoping that is not the new dining set. As for wall color it is best to take into consideration the upholstery on the other pieces you are getting and again I am hoping not all that rattan look.

Beautiful space. What is the undertone on the floor? Do you have a close up? Do you have photos of the fabric on the furniture? What colors are you doing? There are so many designers on Houzz that would love to help but they might need a bit more information. What is your favorite color? Do you like any of the colors on the walls currently? It looks like some swatches on the left wall and a green tinted wall to the right?

You might want to wait until the wall is opened and the natural lighting comes in before you commit to a color... Meanwhile here are some lovely neutral colors that i believe work with a warm travertine.

Others that might look nice with travertine floors...Sea Salt by Benjamin Moore, Balboa Mist BM, Swiss Coffee Behr,

Glass Slipper if you want a warm blue with a tiny hint of teal green perfect in a coastal style home

I like your dining room set. My good friend has a similar set and she just moved near me from Palm Beach. Her chairs are covered in a different fabric with some coral and soft soft almost white blue. It is stunning. Are you in love with the ChandY? I might have some ideas if you are not attached to it.

Wow, this is so helpful. I will post the close up shots of everything tomorrow when we get there.

We would love chandelier ideas as well. We really don't care for the one that is there.

Pretty mockups, celerygirl. I really like that ivory shade you put on the walls, which makes the space look so open and fresh. In my mind, a penthouse evokes a bit of sophistication, and I think this room would be quite pretty all done in soothing neutrals with a nod towards the natural elements (i.e., the Tommy Bahama furniture).

Mark, I wouldn't even think about paint till you finish opening that kitchen wall. That will change everything. You also need to consider what other furniture goes in the space. Finish your renovations, move everything in, THEN start looking at paint colors. That way, you'll only have to paint once.

I saw blue walls in your ideabooks. Here is my mock up.

You can go with one accent wall too.

Here are a few more ideas to peruse while you think about what you love and want to do with your space. Or you might discover what you detest and that is okay too. With all this looking at photos.. I think I need to convince DH to get a florida Condo too.. Ha ha ha ha.

Usually it is best to choose paint after all the other decisions and alterations to the space have been made. Do you have any art or specific fabrics or rugs picked out? Favourite colours? The more specific you can be,the more useful the advice you will get ;-) Looks to be a beautiful space and a lovely dining set. Very on trend and very timeless....a perfect combination. Plus it works so well in many different style iterations.

We travel back to our place tomorrow. We have a neutral color sectional, and two patterned rugs that will add more to the discussion. We have several other Tommy pieces that add to the theme too. I am very grateful for all the input. We have been hoping to do remodeling of the kitchen in a year but would like to paint before that if possible. I understand the good advice about waiting though so we will think about that too.

The Tommy stuff is used. But we love it and still love the look.

Mark, sounds like you guys have more than enough finalized to pick your colour. Do you like white? https://www.studio-mcgee.com/studioblog/2015/6/4/ask-studio-mcgee-our-favorite-white-paints    And https://shop.samplize.com/

Congrats on your new home. Is it for investment purposes or pleasure? Neutral walls in paint or wallcovering in a seagrass for texture. If you want a little pop of color you can incorporate with fabrics and accessories. Best of luck and have fun with it.

The reason that Pat is asking if the dining room set was a resale item is because down here in Florida, the Tommy Bahama look is done and done.

That's not what was asked at all. Besides, perhaps it's "done and done" in your world, but obviously not in everyone's and the implication that there's something horrible and - OH MY GOD -- DATED! -- about a perfectly nice-looking table and chairs is needlessly rude -- something so many of you pros just don't seem to grasp.

Besides, even a nitwit like me can do a quick Google search to see for certain if that's a Tommy Bahama dining set before posting something derogatory about it, so please don't try to defend the indefensible. We're sick of it.

You don't get it, but I have lost the inclination to try to explain it again.

I like the blue white striped wall coastal Hampton inspiration photo. I like coral as an accent.

IdaClaire: Not, she doesn't get it. But the 15 people who liked your first comment do. :)

I too like the blue white striped coastal photo. We are not buying the equivalent of 80s gold lamee padded shoulder dress furniture, lol. But we are enjoying TB style pieces mixed with other elements. We just like it. We will upload other pics later today but I think we will do the green wall as a warm white to test the feel and match with the "silver cream" sectional we have. Thanks for the convo everyone! Also, as aside, I have a question. Where did all the industrial metal chandeliers come from?

The Den with Sarasota Bay views - It will serve as overflow sleep sofa third bedroom too. Space behind the desk will hold sleeper.

And we plan to add another smaller desk - not sure how that will work...

From entrance to living room. Browns and blues under table look great. Soft and bold blues and other colors in the other rug mix with the "chrome" couch - which came with a sort of greenish undertone. TB medium browns meld with the tile and sunlight and give the spaces a very nice, albeit outdated, warm glow.

I like the blue that celerygirl picked but I think just the wall behind the couch? I'm happy to take constructive criticism on that.

From the sectional - Blue water and sky out the window. We will add in complement color pieces too but to some extent, I think the travertine acts as major accent color in the room if we go with neutral colors and maybe one accent wall. However, the ceilings are 11 or 12 feet and I am concerned about an accent wall with that volume of color.

Paint Ceiling in a color as above and walls neutral. Possibly paint chairs or new fabric to harmonize the open space using the outdoors as inspiration. Lots of potential, Have Fun with it.

Really pretty ideas from Jodie White Designs! That view you have is absolutely stunning, and I think with what you already have you're well on your way to creating a gorgeous, serene home.
