kitchen cabinet colors and ceiling and trim

Our cabinets are going to be repainted due to the painter not prepping them right. I’m not happy with the paint color and want to go with less yellow white tone. My ceilings and baseboards were painted the same color as the cabinet and I was wondering if I went with a lighter white, would I need to have the ceiling and trim to match?

What color are your cabinets now? What white was used?

my kitchen has similar coloring and my cabinets are SW Shoji White..a very neutral White not bright white.

I had him match Annie Sloan’s Old White. I’m wanting to do SW Alabaster white. My dishes are more of what I was wanting.

I would go with Decorators White..top left kitchen is in Decorators White...the other choices are to yellow with your gray, White and black counter tops.

Ok, I would need to paint my ceilings and trim to match as well.

You could also take your dish to the paint store and have them do a color match...if going brighter on cabinets your trim will appear more yellow so yes would paint out all the trim to match.

Ugh, what a mess! I was hoping to get by with this paint since there is some cream in the granite. Plus we’re planning on selling our home in a year.

My husband actually likes the current color.

Honestly it looks just fine....what color are your walls...sometimes grays that have a bit of blue will enhance any yellow in the cabinets.

I did SW agreeable grey. We also have black window grids on our windows. So it makes the grey look bluer (which I was trying to avoid) and maybe that’s why the cabinets seem too creamy. I’ve seen kitchens with white and cream. This has been stressing me out so much! I wish I knew you before I started this project. I’m trying to use accent pieces of cream and white to tie it all together.♀️

Thank you Anglophilia! My husband has been telling me this since they were done. It’s our first remodel, and I’m beating myself up for not really taking the time in picking out a white color. I just had my heart set on this color because of its warmth and all of my furniture throughout the house is this color. I guess my other fear is they’re not white enough for potential buyers. It seems that’s a selling point for potential buyers, white cabinets. You’re right about the drawers being too small. They drive me nuts. If this was going to be our forever home, we would of gutted the kitchen, knocked down some walls and put in better cabinets. I’m now at peace and will move on. Thank you!

Your kitchen looks fine. Stop obsessing over it and enjoy it. My thought is that you need to give it a bit of personality. It looks a bit like no one lives there.

What would you suggest cat_ky? I’ve slowly been adding to the room. It’s such a small space, I didn’t want to clutter the countertops like I did before the remodel.

Something on the countertops, makes it look like someone actually uses it. You could use a bit of color in there too. A colored appliance, some type of decoration with color. Maybe a bit of art on the walls, etc. I dont call appliances on a kitchen cabinet clutter. I call it a working kitchen, that someone loves and uses. It just shows up so sterile. Of course, that doesnt mean you need to fill every last space either. Just something for the eye to light on, and actually give it personality. One last thing, on your colors that seem to bother you, have you switched out all the light bulbs to daylight bulbs? That may take some of the yellowish away.

The easiest solution would be to paint your walls a neutral that has no blue or gray tone....it will make a huge difference.

Gotcha! Cat_ky I actually have a green kitchen aid mixer that goes in that area. But have it put away because the painter needs to paint over that area. So the kitchen is still not 100% together. I agree it needs more color. And I’m planning on putting something on the walls over the stove. I read it’s very outdated to put something over the cabinets, but I feel that might help soften the kitchen. I’d also like to put hanging bins right above the tile and have it contain fruit and stuff. Hoping that’ll soften it up and make it look less sterile. There’s so many directions to go, I get overwhelmed and freeze up and then do nothing. So I’m branching out.

Silly question for Home Interiors with Ease, but I noticed with your kitchen your ceilings are the same color as the wall. We have crown molding and I had the ceiling match it. Would that make a difference? Also, i want a more greige color, this one isn’t cutting it. The painted is going to repaint my walls for me. Any suggestions?

I would rethink the greige if I were you. It will just make your kitchen more bland. Personally, I like the color you have there.

Why don't you repaint the walls? When I look at the kitchen I do not mind the white cabinets and counter. I think what is throwing off the look is the wall paint. I think it would be a waste to redo the work since you are selling in a year. It looks fine as it is. It is easier to repaint walls than cabinetry.

I agree, the wall color is totally wrong with those counters and cabinets. Easy and cheap fix!

I’m too afraid to show! Lol! During these past couple of days, a story has evolved from it. Turns out the wall color isn’t agreeable gray, my painter had it matched at DE. Before he painted the kitchen, I had 2 samples of SW paint, Agreeable and repose. It’s looking like someone got them mixed up and painted repose Gray. That’s why it was too blue. So he went and got the paint made at SE and what a huge difference. Left pic is agreeable and right is what was painted on my walls. It was too blue, he even didn’t like and no wonder my cabinets looked bad. I’m happy with agreeable, and wanted to pull it throughout the rest of my house since we need to repaint it and plan on selling it. My cabinets are still creamy, but toned down a lot. He may be repainting them again because his patchwork he did isn’t looking too good.

That s good it was changed up and I was curious why it was looking so blue???

cant wait to see the space when it is all repainted!

The pictures are really hard to tell there’s a difference, but in person it’s a huge difference. The cabinets seem softer, yes they’re too creamy and that’s a hard lesson I’m learning, but it works. The blue undertone is gone, however in that corner pic it still looks blue. My kitchen may still look sterile with the gray paint, but that’s fine with me. I loved it from the beginning, it’s funny how it never seemed right when it was painted in our kitchen, due to
It being the wrong color to begin with. The archway connects to our kitchen and the paint needs to be brought out into the house, which is why I wanted to paint the rest of the house with Agreeable Gray. The painter never painted it out until this week and when I saw the original color on the archway and how blue it was, I new it wasn’t the right paint to begin with. It was Repose Gray, another Gray I was looking at. I’ve tried changing lights to 5000k and felt like I was in a sterile laboratory, so I need to keep some warmth. This has been a huge learning lesson for me, and I wish I had discovered this site beforehand to have wonderful suggestions. Thanks so much for your help and input. I’m off to make the kitchen more cozy looking. :)

Here’s another question with cabinets, this time lighting. I had them switched out, the top is the new ones and bottom are old ones. I feel the new ones are too warm, I miss the brightness. But maybe I don’t want them too bright to soften the the countertops and backsplash?

Bottom look nice a bit brighter like normal daylight.
