Need help with the sofa color choice in my living room

We just moved into our new home and I am trying to brighten up our living room space. We are thinking about changing out the sofa and possibly the ottoman. Our style is mainly rustic with a touch of modern (if that makes sense). My goal is to keep the room elegant/classy yet practical and a bit modern at the same time (I have 2 little boys ages 2 and 4). We want to stick with a sectional and are considering lighter colors (white? Beige? anything but brown). I would appreciate any suggestions you guys have.

Would you consider leather? It's pretty kid friendly. This one at Crate and Barrel has the modern lines that might work with your aesthetic. It is in the brown family, however. If paired with the right rug you'd have a great start.

Another option is a removable slip-covered sofa. However, I'm not sure how well they wash. Maybe some else will have some feedback.

Thanks guys. Manon, that couch is beautiful! I like the idea of bringing some color in with throw pillows/may be a nice plush throw. Just scared about picking a color that clashes with the ceiling and the built ins, and worse, makes the room darker.

I think the couch Manon posted is a great color. Brown family...yes...but it's still light.

walls should be based on the decoration in your room not the other way around. having said that your room looks creamy white so nothing clashes with that. colorful never makes things darker, darker things do. in addition, you do not try to match your ceiling, builtins floors etc. they are natural, back of the background. you can change them so the do not matter. if you were worried about what goes best with those you would have no colors. do you know which pillows you like? also probably beating a dead horse here, but have you thought of 2 couches? or one and a couple of chairs.

I'm not a pro but am stopping by to say that I really like the couch you have now. I just think there is a lot of beige in that room with the carpet and the walls. I would paint the walls lighter, or a different colour. If you qant to add colour, what about colourful curtains?

Thanks guys for your input. I don’t have any specific throw pillow colors in mind but was wondering about incorporating pastels. Any suggestions?

Thanks Tira_misu :) I like the idea of adding curtains.

it has a lot to do with how dark the gray is. if it is too gray it can make the pastels too light. how about these?
