I forgot to say I have been using this type of fountain for 3-4 yrs and the time I observed this hummer bathing was 8:pm . Do they also use it in early morn , maybe.

Kudos for getting a photograph--mine bathe so quickly, and rarely within sight, that I have no photos to share. Most often I have seen them bathe during the day; 8pm seems late, to me. I would have guessed more feather drying time before night torpor would be desired.

Your fountain looks as if it has a lot of features that would make it popular with many species of birds--gentle movement, shallow water depth and sufficient room to freely move around. It is probably is a busy watering hole. Amazing how a bit of water movement is so much more attractive to birds than a still saucer of water.

I had one of those fountains for awhile but never saw the hummers visit mine. And while I don't currently have any fountains or other water features (not even a bird bath, as they just encourage mosquitos), I do notice all the birds, including my hummers, enjoying the sprinklers when I have them running. The hummers use it as a shower, zipping in and out of the water, while larger birds wander around or sit under its spray. And that tends to be midday or early afternoon for the most part.

The trick for avoiding mosquitoes is of course moving water so they cant create more. I also have a birdbath about 20" diam. maybe 3" deep with a water wiggler which keeps the water moving.
