I have a Vent-a-Hood but mine is one of the regular styles. I know many people who have had custom hoods built (usually wood) and used a Vent-a-Hood blower. Anything you do that is custom will be very high, especially in Southern CA.

A custom hood from anywhere USA usually IS fairly priced. Because it is custom. If a company has "cornered the market" there may be a GOOD reason for that as well, such as skill and execution, quality, and creativity. Be happy and pay..or be oh- so -sad. Right? : ) Dang!!!

Custom equals pricey. There are so many hoods around that are nicely styled and do a good job I would not waste money on getting something custom. I love my vent-a-hood we had the same one in our old house . They work very well and IMO are quite attractive.

I use Modernaire a lot. You can see a wide variety on my profile. They range in price from $2k-$5k, depending on the level of customization.
