Midcentury modern guest bedroom - how can I decorate?

I'm looking to decorate a house in midcentury modern style and I'm starting with this room. Any suggestions?

I know I need a rug, I'm just not sure which type, and I'd like at least one (maybe two) side tables, and somewhere for guests to store clothes (there is a closet on the left-hand side of the photo).

I'm also buying Target Performance Threshold sheets today and curious which color would go best with the rest of the room: here are the solids and patterns.

What a nice blank canvas! Mid Century Modern furniture is usually characterized by a few key elements: Warm wood tones, brass details, the simplicity of Scandinavian influence, and small patterns. Colors that look great are oranges, yellows, and blues. My favorite resources for furniture when looking for this style is West Elm, Crate + Barrel, Anthropologie, CB2, Cost Plus World Market, Design Within Reach, All Modern, Wayfair, IKEA, and Room + Board. I think the best way to go for your design is by choosing white sheets and a duvet and then adorning the bed with patterned or a punch of color in the pillows. Your rug can be an oriental, a textural shag rug, or a flat weave Scandinavian rug. Don't forget to add some greenery in the space- either a fig leaf tree or some succulents. Thanks, Andrea. What size rug is recommended for a bedroom of my dimensions, and where should it be placed?

I also thin you should look at Scandinavian modern furniture. Your bed is a good starting point. The colors were clean and vibrant for the most part.

I would shoot for a 6' x 9'. Have it go under the bed and then peek out from the bottom and the left side of the bed about 18". This will leave room for your feet to touch the cozy floor and give a pop of color. You could also consider doing a floor runner on both sides of the bed, that would look great!

OP, while you are at Target or on the website check out the Project 62 line of mid century inspired furniture and decor. I got two nightstands similar to the white ones in the first inspiration pic that was posted. They have a lot of nice pieces for a good value, especially if it's for a guestroom where you may not want to spend as much as in a master bedroom.

I like the only geometric and stripes patterns. No floral.

Check Percale sheet set when you are in Target. I got gray percale sheets and dusty blush pillow cases to achieve this look.

Which type of shag do you all like for a white rug?

I love the softness of Option 1 but I worry it's too "glam" for the room. What do you think?

Not only is option 1 too glam, it will be a nightmare to clean. Go with option 2.

Ordinarily I wouldn't suggest this but try turning the bed so that the headboard is catty-corner. Headboard butts up at a right angle to the corner to form a triangle of space behind the headboard. Does that make sense?
