Standard Sunrise Vs. Okna 500

I’m trying to decide between Standard Sunrise with Ultra-U plus 12 glass system vs Okna 500 deluxe with sunseal. The local dealer for Sunrise has been in business for 35 years and has a great rating. The Okna dealer has been in business for 6 years with one BBB complaint on siding they sell. Okna does not come with glass breakage but Sunrise does. These two windows are within our budget so I’m not looking to upgrade to the top of the line. We had also considered Simonton, Atrium, & YKK. We live in S.C. and plan to stay in this house for a long time. I have been researching windows and getting quotes for the last three months. Is there anything I should consider between these two brands? Is one better than the other? The only reason I am leanig toward Sunrise is because the dealer has a more solid business. Thank you!

I have seen the sill and the head of the frame bow in either direction, I have seen the sashes do the same, the lift rail problems, and. I don’t care for how the sills interlock. imo , it is overhyped and overprice. One complaint in 6 years doesn’t sound bad, 6 years is good start.

If these are casement windows I’d go Sunrise, if double hung I’d lean Okna. The glass breakage should be an option for Okna.

They are not casement. These are both double hung windows. I noticed on previos post that you have not had the best experience with some Sunrise windows. Have you noticed the whole window bowing or just the handle to pull the window up? If this does happen will sunrise replace the window? I really like the Okna window I am just concerned about the dealer not being in business very long and having one claim against them on BBB. What good is a good window with no dealer?

One complaint in 6 years is fine. Never look at just a few complaints, look to see if there is a pattern. Some homeowners make complaints over the most ridiculous reasons or unrealistic expectations. Someone needs to design a site directed towards homeowners that should be avoided by contractors.

You all would pick Okna 500 over Sunrise? I am also looking into getting a quote from Soft-lite. Which window would be comparable to the Okna 500 in the soft-lite line? Thanks!

I would choose the Okna 500 over Sunrise for double hungs. Soft-lite’s Imperial LS would be a comparable window.

Both good windows, but I agree with the other posters. The 500 gets the performance nod here.

Simonton’s 5500 or 9800 would be their best offerings, but neither series is in the same league with the other brands mentioned.

+1 to the other pros' commentary. Okna is a shoe in here in double hung config. Casements are a bit closer. Simonton is below both. While not a terrible window, it's below these other two. The Softlite Imperial LS would be their comp product.
