Silly questions about logos on clothing

Do people even notice the logos on polos and such? I avoid them as a rule, but sometimes you have to be flexible. And some logos are more objectionable than others for me, for example, I love the Vineyard Vines whale, but there are some brands I find tacky and I just bought two polos from one of those brands because I love the color on DS1 and DH. The logo is tone-on-tone and it is for a brand I really, really try to avoid. Do people notice? Are there some logos you find more objectionable than others as well?

I have a couple of Ralph Lauren polo shirts (have one on now) and one shirt dress where the logo is a different color that the material. I have never thought of the logo as objectionable in any way. In fact, I buy DH lots of RL polo shirts and long sleeve "dress" shirts. Color and fit are my criteria

I find the oversized RL pony logo to be ridiculous looking and would refuse to buy it. I have bought shirts for my sons and grandson with the regular RL logo.

Hmm, never knew there was an oversized RL pony logo. This is the small logo I am referring to:

I have the above dress. The logo is fairly unobtrusive.

LOL Bonnie, I have that dress in the same color as well as hot pink. I am definitely flexible about some logos- I find RL somewhat ubiquitous and hard to avoid anyway, ditto Lacoste. I am specifically worried about a Burberry logo (which aside from their plaid, I could not have told you what their logo was until this silly polo shirt issue I am having.)

I try to avoid all logos, but if I loved the color of something I would relent.

I have to confess that the logo on my two Kate Spade bags make me feel sad now. Just seeing them there reminds me of HER obvious sadness and pain, and ... well, let's just say I haven't carried them like I used to. (I know this didn't really answer your question, but is what immediately came to mind when logos were mentioned.)

I don't pay much attention really. On the other hand, I won't pay extra for an item with a logo.

I feel that the companies should pay me if they want me to advertise for them rather than me paying them

    Likewise!

I don't have any logos on my clothing. I'm not into Ralph Lauren. I do use a Chanel purse of my DD's with the Chanel clasp.

Ida, maybe she designed the bags when she was happy?

For me it depends on the brand, the logo size, and the placement. It is frustrating that I would like all of my logo adorned clothing better without the logo. I guess I just ignore the logo if I like the shape, fit, and quality of the item. I find them less annoying if they're somewhere small on the back.

I generally dislike logos, for myself. (everywhere. like, if it is on a sink-I'll mildly dislike it too. lol).

On the other hand, if I really love something and find it to be best product among others, like Tory Burch's flip flops that are indeed crazily comfy -I obviously will continue to buy them logo or not

or I like Longchamp-so ok they have something on some of their bags I don't remember what exactly.

I have a plain Pliage tote by them I take on every trip, and couple cool vintage bags I bought on eBay, velvety, with flowers design. I don't remember visible logos there at all-if they are hiding somewhere, my mind erased them. Comfort, indestructible fabric, and flowers come first..obviously.

So I most likely won't be attentive to other people's logos..I might notice them or not, (some are harder not to notice), and then I'll think of something else.

I'm glad to hear some people don't notice the logos. I really do try to avoid them. It cheapens the clothing terribly, but then again, you can't avoid them all together, unless you are willing to sacrifice some things you actually like a lot- like that summer dress Bonnie and I have, or april's Tory Burch sandals.

With my boys, I was astounded at how often I bought T-shirts where the logo was the decoration- Volcom and Quicksilver are two brands that come to mind for decorating the Ts with large versions of their logos. There is just not a lot of cool, colorful stuff for young men out there. At one point I tried to get my mother to design T-shirts for my sons I was so tired of what was on offer for their age/size in the stores. She came up with a few nice designs we had made one year- but I digress.

Thank you all for indulging my silly question. If you want a good laugh, check out the T-shirts at Nordstrom in the men's department. They have $600 T-shirts that are unspeakably ugly. I know we've discussed ugly fashion to death over here, but it still baffles me that anyone would pay $600 for an ugly Tshirt- not that I would pay that much money for the most gorgeous T-shirt, 'cause I wouldn't.

This beauty below can be yours for the bargain-basement price of $590. It features GUCCI written on the back side.

IMHO the answer to your query is ABSOLUTELY. If the general population didn't seek to wear a brand-to show off-the practice would die out. High School students are particularly aware of brands and having the proper ones are HUGE in their world. I see the tiny icons but could identify very few of them. The idea I would seek out wearing one is BIZARRE to me. For sure I would not want to pay more for being a bill board for a company.

So true about the High Schoolers. Status symbols are an extremely important way to fit in.

It wasn't only a logo but certain designers. Lilly Pulitzer was popular with the girls for special occasion events at school. The colors and prints were highly recognizable.

Same with the Vera Bradley tote bags. But, at least they didn't have the dreaded logo.

I don't like logos or any obvious indicators of brand. I bought a tote from a brand that has a well-known design on most of its apparel and accessories because the tote did not have that decoration anywhere inside or outside (and it is a very nice bag). I can't avoid the "swoosh" on my sneaks, and I chuckled at Virgil Abloh's design for Serena's tutus at the U. S. Open that have the word "logo" above the swoosh.

I don’t really notice them unless they are very large or on the back instead of very unobtrusive on the left front of a garment. Or if they really stand out on a handbags like a big gold hangtag or something similar. I don’t ever buy anything for the purpose of flaunting a logo.

I wear a lot of activewear....shoes, jackets, running and hiking apparel. You cannot get away from logos on the stuff. I just ignore it and move on. And I am not brand-loyal except for my running shoes like most every other runner I know.

Strange how I feel about logos. While I don't mind wearing my navy blue NIKE tee shirt to the gym, I seldom carry a brown purse ( a gift) that has repeating 2 initials covering it.

I think many if not most people are probably unimpressed by labels and logos these days. Certainly not like it was back in the 80s, when so many were clamoring to wear what were considered "status symbols." Perhaps the influx of cheap knockoffs is what shifted the trend. Please just tell me that the fad of wearing sweatpants with "Juicy" or "Love Pink" emblazoned across the butt is a thing of the past, though. That was horrid.

Bonnie- I LOVE that dress! My DW might like it!

I like most of the RL stuff, & have for a long time. I've probably had a dozen+ of the Polo's & shorts over the years. I'm kind of a "Brand" guy in a way. Not to be braggy or show-off, but I just like some of their "looks" & logos.

I like the slightly dressier-looking dress-shirt collar Polos', as opposed to the rolled-collar ones.

I'm kinda shopping for a black "Prancing Horse" polo.....;-)

Absolutely hate Ralph Lauren Polo logos - that is the worst IMO. It was extremely common in San Francisco in the 1980s and it just looked cheap and generic to me. Very popular with Castro Clones - generally people with extremely boring personalities. Of course I was making a lot of my own clothes at that time so that I would have something that no one else would have.

Hmm...I don't wear logos normally. I do actually like the RL logo and we wear the brand at times. I've always thought the logo to be petite and clean looking. The large ones feel very obnoxious to me though. It's the same design but the size makes a difference. I also like the little Lacoste crocodile - tiny. There are brands out there I wouldn't buy because I don't like the logo.

In my teens years we were all into logos. Do teens care about such things these days? I'm guessing today it's probably more about electronics.

Rita / Bring Back Sophie 4 Real thanked User

For sure teens spend more money on electronics than they do on clothes these days. The retailers are painfully aware of that new fact of their lives.

Last year in MOA, I found a neat IZOD (Navy-Blue color), but with a cool little Snoopy on his doghouse logo!!! He's holding a little fishing-rod, with the hook hanging down in front of the doghouse. The IZOD Alligator is poking its head out!

I love fun stuff like that!!! Salesperson said the 2 companies did a few clothing pieces as such....

WRT to logos as status symbols, I am in a pretty odd situation, hence the reason for my query. Where my children went to school, there was no such thing as a consumer goods status symbol because every child knew every adult's business since they were ridiculously young.

In Silicon Valley so much information about who is who and who earns what is public, there are no big secrets where financial worth are concerned. Plus you knew who had never set foot on a commercial airplane by the time you were in middle school, for example- and this applies to public and private school likewise.

If perchance I go silent on this thread again, not even thanking people for their comments, it's because I am having Houzz interface problem. I can comment on some threads, and not others. The little box shows up without the "Submit" button. And on those threads, I can't like or thank people. This has happened before and it clears up- eventually. I am traveling and am on an ancient MacBook, so maybe that is why.
