And so it begins -- everybody ready for peak hurricane season?

Tropical storm Gordon is headed up the gulf toward what looks like New Orleans/western Mississippi. They say it isn't going to strengthen, but the Gulf is awfully warm, so I don't really take much stock in that. I think we had some outer bands pass through here this morning. It very suddenly got very dark and the wind gusted up with heavy rains for about 15 minutes.

I'm not ready this year. I haven't stocked up on canned goods or anything non-perishable. I guess I'd better get to work with my new (to me) dehydrator and buy some charcoal for the grill. I've changed my diet drastically to more fresh fruits and veggies, but that isn't going to do it if a major storm hits. Guess my next shopping trip will be to stock up.

One fun thing about my new diet is that I stopped eating wheat, so I bought some corn flour (Masa harina) and was planning on making some tortilla chips anyway. Now I have an excuse to make enough to stock up on, and grab a few jars of salsa as well. I do love salsa and tortilla chips, and homemade are so much healthier.

I finally found my sandbags, so I supposed I should get those filled too. Also, time to have a plant sale, because I have no room in here for all the propagated plants I have outside.

Isn't life in Florida fun?

Not ready for an Irma.... but I finally got rain.... haven't had any in 3 plus weeks..... I have been on walks with my dog and have gotten caught in rain less than a mile from the house.... got soaked only to return home to find not a drop..... Hope no one had any flooding, but glad I got a little rain out of this one. Stay safe..

My canned good are still good from irma, i have 2 jugs of water and some smaller bottles but i likely need a few more, always need more. I do fill 6 large mason jars with water and put in the fridge when a storm threatens and fill every pitcher with water for the cats. And i fill two large plastic lidded bins with water for flushing and bathing. I have 3 bottles of gator aid, which let me tell you if you have to work outside after a storm cleaning fallen debris is wonderful as you lose so much salt while sweating with no ac to cool off in.

I have batteries, lamp oil, candles and matches btw cheap dollar store solar yard lights are not a bad way of keeping a little safe light on in the house at night. I pull my yard lights in before a storm and ready to use them indoors. I have a generator arriving this coming weekend, its my sister's and she is moving and has asked me to keep it for awhile, she said use if i need to, its big enough to run the fridge but not the ac. Got my battery operated radio and a radio that can be hand cranked that gets the weather stations.

I bought enough cat crates to evacuate the cats in my escape from irma. And have since bought a sleeping bag and have it and other bedding in a box ready to grab if need to escape.

I evacuated to my brother in Georgia for irma. He is my closet relative out of florida but it was not ideal cause irma headed for his place and while for florida standard it was not much of a blow, it blew enough to down his power and when he loses power he loses water as he is on a well. So he had a houseful and no working bathroom. I might aim for south carolina next time and my neice, she says she has plenty of room.

Wow, Pea. You are really prepared. I have much work to do. I used to have a big Rubbermaid container (red, so I could find it easily) for supplies in case I had to evacuate, but that has been used for other things, so I need to get another one and fill it up and LEAVE IT filled up. LOL
