Garbage disposal for new granite comp sink

Hi all -

Husband and I just ordered this Blanco Précis undermount super single for our kitchen remodel - cabinets and counters will be going in soon (Aka light at the end of the remodel tunnel!).......wondering if anyone can offer advice on new garbage disposals to pair with it, and can direct me toward any additional/non-SS drain parts I should order (sink is anthracite color). I would love to have everything here and ready on install day.

Thank you in advance!!

Not sure what the question is.

I am remodeling with a copper sink and ordered a pure copper drain fitting that is fabricated to accept a garbage disposal. I don't know what others would use for your sink but you should start a thread specifically asking that question since people might not realize you are seeking information from the title of the thread and so won't bother to open it possibly.

I did research quite a bit and on the recommendation of several houzzers on a thread as well as reading reviews, I opted for an Insinkerator Evolution in a compact size. I chose the compact size because I wanted to preserve more space under the cabinet and the compact size was powerful enough for me with its 3/4 hp motor. If I space was no object I might have opted for the Insinkerator in the non-compact version. It was also more costly but I would have paid for the larger model if it made more sense functionally.

What thing I did learn on this forum was to get an air pressure switch for the disposal instead of the more traditional electrical switch. It can be mounted anywhere and so I won't have to stretch to the backsplash in order to turn the disposal on and off.

Amazon has many accessories for various sinks. I am having a black sink installed later this week and will be using the garbage disposal I already have. I did purchase a new drain cover thingy in a very dark bronze color that I think will go well with the overall look that I am going for. But there are a ton of stainless steel drain covers that work with garbage disposals on Amazon, just look around. And if you have prime, no shipping and two day delivery.

my apologies, you wanted non SS. Like I said above I went with the dark bronze. Black was a bit of a challenge. I know another poster here found one but needed to wait on that order.

Any sink drain flange that has a color coating on it will scratch fairly quickly. The disposal itself should have its own sink drain flange, and the stainless steel actually looks better than some trying-to-match color.

For recs of disposals, you should note that there are really only 2 disposal manufacturers, Insinkerator and Waste King. You will be fine with either one as long as you buy a disposal that is not a "badger" style. It must be 3/4 hp or 1 hp, and you will be fine with either brand. Insinkerator makes a 3/4 hp compact style if you have less room under your sink or if your drainpipe is higher than usual.

Whenever I see a post from Helen, it always includes a critique of the OP, not sure what that is about, habit I guess. I wouldn't pay it any mind.

I'd suggest not getting the Evo Compact. It has a composite grind chamber. Insinkerator hides that fact but will give you the info if you check with Tech Support. Only the models with a 40oz chamber are all stainless grinding components and chamber. The Excel is one. This Septic Assist is currently the least expensive.

For longevity I suggest getting a unit with a stainless grind chamber not just stainless grind components. For Insinkerator that means it'll have a 40oz grind chamber listed as stainless. All others use a composite chamber including the Evolution Compact. This Septic Assist model is the least expensive version with a stainless grind chamber. Insinkerator does not list the composite grind chamber on smaller models. If you call Tech Support they tell you then.

    Hey guys -

Thanks for the responses. I am new to the DIY/remodel mix that we have going on at our house right now so I appreciate the guidance. Flanges and drain covers is what I was thinking of - I will do some research. The SS in the Blanco anthracite just looks “off” in my opinion but I also don’t want something matching if it’s just going to chip off color in a year.

As far as brands of GD’s - I had narrowed it down to the Insinkerator and Waste King. We have a really old GE right now so I was surprised by the size difference of the new ones. Huge! The Insinkerator is just a bit shorter correct? And best to go with SS grinding parts? I’m sad to loose all that under cab space but hoping for something quieter. The old GE can get rid of anything but sounds like the house is coming down when you turn it on.

I did already order the air switch button kit (super excited to not reach across the counter anymore) so the countertop folks will have it when they do the template for our granite.

    Thanks again guys! :)

^^^ I meant the “Insinkerator Compact” is only shorter than their regular evolution models? Houzz app wont let me edit the post.

"sad to loose all that under cab space"

You might want to consider the other Blanco Silgranit Super Single sink, the Blanco Diamond Undermount Super Single (your OP shows the Blanco Precis). The Blanco Diamond has the same dimensions, but it has a corner drain. That enables the disposal to be mounted underneath to the side, allowing more uninterrupted usable space under the sink. Once you have a corner drain, you won't go back to a center drain :)

FWIW, I opted for the Insinkerator Evolution because it is smaller and the 3/4 HP motor and reviews convinced me it was more than adequate for my needs.

I also have a rear offset drain to maximize space in the sink cabinet. With the disposal to the side and rear, I will be able to install a roll out trash bin. Since I have a small kitchen every bit of cabinet space counts.

Thanks everyone! I went with the Insinkerator Evolution Select Plus. I am contemplating buying the Blanco Diamond too and returning whichever sink I don’t use. The idea of having the GD tucked over to the corner is very appealing, as long as it would work with plumbing. Up next install! Thanks again!

@freidajune - I do hate when my pans block the drain so definitely a selling point for the diamond!

I love sinks like this. They look stylish and have plenty of space, and you can install additional features and containers for them.
