Vine ID for Jessica in Nebraska -we aren’t ignoring you

For some reason, Houzz is refusing to let me answer in the follow up comments to Jessica’s Question, so here is the ID:

Silver lace vine. I have seen it listed as either Fallopia aubertii or Polygonum aubertii. It can be invasive in some areas, spreading onto wild areas unchecked, so check with your local Dept. Natural Resources to see if is likely to be an issue in Nebraska.

I replied to her post yesterday . I can see my reply but perhaps others cannot.

It still shows " be the first to comment ". !!!

It appears to be something in Polygonaceae. It may be Fallopia baldschuanica.

I answered that post as well!! Same answer as carol's and my comment shows when I check that thread but still saying "be the first to comment".

    Another annoying Houzz glitch!

Yes I answered 20 hrs. ago with this

It is a Polygonum perhaps Polygonum convolvulus - Wild buckwheat or Climbing buckwheat are the common names.

I did not and still do not see anyone else's post on the original thread. Do you see mine?

Interesting. I can’t see any answers at all as of first thing this morning. When I tried answering from two different devices, both answers disappeared when I hit submit, so I assumed it was also happening to everyone else. Sorry about the confusion.

What in heaven’s name is Houzz doing? I am seeing everything doubled as well on some pages but not on all of them.

I could see only my replies. Currently no replies are showing. Strange! I tried replying again, to no avail.

I took a lousy screen shot much earlier today :

I also had problems, yesterday, with replies. Also having intermittent problems with links - they're sometimes changing back to dark black, even though no content has been updated. That part has been going on for several days. Houzz really needs to consider rebuilding the site.

Has anyone else come upon unanswered threads and after you comment when you hit submit everything you wrote is deleted? Hence why the thead has no comments. It's happened to me a few times and again last night. I flagged it and told houzz, like it will help. It never used to take an eternity for photos to upload either, that is when you are lucky enough to have your photo post. Houzz has no financial incentive for fixing the issues. If this site was supported by the plant and seed industries they would have more incentive because if they were smart they would use all of our inside information which is in real time to profit. What's the most current usage of genus name? Fallopia or Polygonum. Can't we just stick with one name? Maybe houzz thinks that we will be buying their tacky furniture and posters that they dangle in our faces continuously.

I also answered. There were no other replies when I posted very soon after the question appeared. I called it Polygonum balschuanicum. When I open the thread I can see my reply. But in the list it still says ‘be the first to comment.’

Jay, similar to your experience is why I started this thread. When I hit submit my answer disappeared so I assumed no answers were possible. I still don’t know if Jessica is aware that there were answers to her question.

With this constant critique I wouldn't be surprised if Houzz dropped the site all together.

I realized that I forgot to link the original post. Thanks to rhizo for figuring out why it wasn’t possible to answer on the original thread.

Actually, there have been enough complaints or remarks and messages sent to Houzz admin that the Ask the Yard Doctor forum has been "fixed" (although it was a dumb concept when it was first instituted, never got much traffic and who the heck was this so-called "yard doctor" anyway?!) Did not not realize including a forum FAQ would produce the same inablitity to respond.

It all boils down to the ridiculous practice of cross posting!! If new-to-Houzz posters were not encouraged or made to think it was required to post in three different forums we wouldn't have these problems at all. In many cases, they don't even know there is a dedicated collection of gardening forums (the old GardenWeb) and routinely never move beyond the Houzz selection which only offers a nebulous 'Garden' forum, Landscape Design (the only GW forum to appear on both platforms) and the all inclusive Design Delimma, which is why the LD forum has deteriorated into a catch-all for all sorts of unrelated posts.

They just need to do a bit more tweaking. And get rid of the cross posting!!!
