Advice needed on a glass tile band for tub

I am looking to use a glass tile band around my bathtub. Can anyone give me advice. Will the glass hold up? will it be spotty, do I have to wipe it down after every use?

Thanks,

would you recommend it? or should I stay away from glass

I like your idea however the large wall has a window in it so I was trying to tie a band around the window sill and wrap around the entire tub? Wouldnt the window break up the feature wall?

I have glass tile in a shower. it's not hard to keep clean. spray on the same stuff you use on your windshields to repel water and it will keep hard water deposits at bay. you can shine it up w/Windex. it's no harder to keep clean than ceramic tile.

what other tile do you plan on using w/the glass?

some designs are better than others.

iridescent glass penny rounds are beautiful. I'd do a large vertical band w/these and a larger white subway tile in a stacked pattern.

pick your glass tile first and work around it.

what you don't want is something like this:

Post an image of the shower area

Beth, thank you, I plan on using a 3 x 24 porcelain that looks like marble in a staggered pattern. I just thought it might be too plain for the entire tub surround. My tub is under a window.

Beverly, my bathroom is completely gutted right now.

Judy, if you're doing that type of tile, then forgo the glass accent band. It just doesn't look right w/that type. normally those marble look tiles are rather busy and tend to stand alone.

3x24 is an odd size for a shower. when you say staggered, do you mean 1/3 offset pattern? Instead of doing that, why don't you do a herringbone pattern? you get design without muddling it up w/glass bands.

this is a 3x24 tile in a herringbone pattern on the floor. I'd do this on shower wall. it will look so much better than an offset and adding a glass band

or have it installed in a chevron

"what you don't want is something like this:"

Curious, why? It's not that different than the other designs in your post.

yes, actually it is. the other designs the glass tile is a different size or shape and the coordinating tile is also different and laid in a diff pattern. They are glaringly different to me. the last pic has 1x2 glass mosaics w/3x6 subway tile set in an offset pattern. To me, it's dated looking and doesn't work together. even the other white tile w/the linear random bars is borderline dated. In that picture it works because of the niche work. and if you look, you'll see the mosaic tile is completely different looking. The other ones are penny rounds w/stacked, longer tiles, and hex tiles in vertical pattern on only one wall. you really think all of those look the same? alrighty then.

I didn't say they looked the same, just not super different, suppose I was mostly seeing the one with the niches. I do see what you're saying about being dated. I didn't use glass with subway in my last bath because I didn't think they worked together, but I did do a band of small marble squares, which I'm not as fond of anymore. :(

I'm doing another forties bath with 4 x 4 field and because of a mixup with a liner tile I'd chosen, am considering a plain glass 6 x 1/2 liner. Not sure yet on the new direction. Good luck, OP!

Sorry, but I have no idea why a window in the shower some how supports the concept of a stripe in the shower.

Here is a successful stripe tile installation
