Painting Wood Trim and Baseboard Options

Hi, We are getting white kitchen cabinets installed soon and I'd love any advice on what to do with the rest of the house or at least the 2 dark wood sliders off the kitchen. Goal is to blend some white - same color as cabinets into the slider & window trim and/or baseboard. My husband who recently stained and installed nice looking baseboard (Knotty Elder) hesitantly agreed that he would replace the baseboard with white. Here are some options I am considering - Please see existing pics: Option 1 - Replace Baseboard with white and paint slider door trim and window trim white. Option 2 - Keep baseboard as is and paint entire inside sliders and window including panels white. Option 3 - Keep baseboard and just paint window and slider trim white. Option 4 - Replace all of the trim with same wood and stain as the baseboard either leaving the slider panels as is or painting them white

. I really appreciate any advice anyone can share. Thanks!

Your wood is very pretty. I like painted trim. I painted some built in in a past house that was a huge transformation. I like painted trim. If you like the clean fresh look of painted trim, I would go for it.

Keep wood. There are 9714 posts this year alone begging how to warm up a cold white or gray space. The answer is always wood.

My choice would be option 4. once the new trim is up, you can decide if the sliders need to be painted. Do you have a smaller window in a different room (perhaps a bathroom, or a bedroom with only 1 window) that you can do a trial run on?

I prefer all wood trim and accents painted. i find that wood trim limits paint color options and you always have to work around it. I also find that white trim makes a room feel cleaner and brighter, but that is my own personal taste.

You have very nice trim. I sure wouldnt be painting it. If you really have to have white cabinets, then just have white walls, and leave the trim. I dont mind painted trim, but, I really do not like white trim, nor do I like white kitchen cabinets, although, I do like cabinets painted in colors.. Your house looks very warm and inviting the way it is right now.

Thanks for your advice. What my pics fail to show is the wood sliders and trim don‘t match and while I think the baseboard matches the floors ok I think I have too much mismatched wood going on and I think replacing cabiinets with wood would add to this issue

Sorry I meant to say the Baseboard and wood sliders don’t match. I like the Baseboard color much better.

Thanks for posting the close-up photo showing the two woods. What type of wood is on the door and casings? Is it original to the house? What year is the house?

The wood slider is new a newer slider to match the existing large dbl slider which is older. Trim is pine stained Cherry. Baseboard is new Knotty Alder also stained cherry but is a different lighter color. The house was built in 1974. Original owners before us put in the large sliders and oak cabinets at some point maybe in the 80s or early 90s
