Dear Houzz---and anyone who has replied to a post started by me...

last modified: 7 years ago

I am not getting notifications, and posts are showing up much later than are actually written. I realize that many have complained about this. Add me in.

It seems a small inconvenience, but I have thanked people who have taken the time to reply to me. And then, sometimes long after it's dead, another reply will show up in the middle of the thread (showing that that's when it was written).

Or I will not get a notification at all, but a reply will appear and unless I happen to re-read, I'm unaware.

I get that most could care less...but I do think that it's very nice of everyone who replies to a post.

So thank you. You rock.

Houzz, you don't rock yet concerning this issue. But thank you for reading anyway.

P.S. Went down the list for the appropriate place to post....(Using Houzz?) Couldn't find it.

Thanks, writersblock...I don't think it's in the list of choices for making a posting if you're in another section...in other words, you have to be on that section of the forum in order for the post to show up there...

Will bookmark it for future reference...

@pennydesign I have a lot of notification issues too. Sometimes I will get an email sometimes I don't. OFTEN I'll get a notification from the app and when I go to check the comment, it was a reply from 5 days ago.

If you click All Topics, sometimes it's in the list that comes up right away. Other times you have click Explore Topics again>All Topics before it appears. They're alphabetical, so it's way at the end.

I'm getting notifications only sporadically. Yes, became an issue, and yes, Houzz, you don't rock yet:)

messages became strange too..some, I'm not getting at all..

    Threads might dissappear..then reappear..

    Hard to predict

it's a bit like being in Hogwarts lately..:)

    (without a familiar. lol)

If I want to really follow-I have to really go to the thread in question. To find it again.

Hi there, Sometimes comments are caught in our filter when they are posted, so they don't appear right away. This can be due to any number of issues. When it is reviewed by our team, it is either rejected or it is posted to the thread. That would definitely delay the notification for that post, but the notification is sent as soon as the post is visible. Apologies for the frustration with this! We do constantly update our filters to try to have as few false positives as possible. It's an ongoing effort.

Upthread, the Using Houzz topic was mentioned as the right place for questions like this. That is correct! I've moved this question to that topic. You can also always reach our team through help.houzz.com which is the best avenue for questions specific to your account. Hope that helps!

Thanks Emily...truly I didn't think of the filters...

As far as where to post this...I was referring to the choices of where to post (the drop down menu after writing the post)...I was in the Home Decorating section when I wrote this thread starter and I wanted it to go in Conversations and Using Houzz, but that choice wasn't there for me. Don't know if it's supposed to appear in the drop down menu or if I was temporarily stupid...

Emily H I don't want to be a bother but Houzz needs to make a public statement about the controversy around here. There are posts being deleted/hidden regarding a very specific issue and I for one am deeply concerned at the apparent censorship that is happening.

Lindsey!!! I’ve been looking for you. I thought you may have been put in time out.

That's ironic, I've been looking for you too benjesbride. You don't pop up in my searches for Houzz users.

Nor do some others I have searched for.

Did you get my private message? Do you know about FB?

I literally had to find you buy goigling “houzz lindsey heard a rumor” and then this thread popped up. It’s crazy town.

I didn't get your private message. I heard about FB but can't find the account by searching it. Got a link?

    great, thanks.

ok just requested to join. on my business account, may have to finally break down and get a personal FB (the horror)

I left FB 4 years ago..it's gnawing at me because I love my friends who's there but I hate FB so much..don't know what to do. Anyway looks like I'm out of luck. With everything concerning FB..

actually, I've a personal favor to ask of Emily..
    @Emily H
I tried to reach support but to no avail..the page doesn't work for me-they say I should enable cookies-cookies ARE enabled, as I've checked and re-checked..can I ask you to ask them to move my thread https://www.gardenweb.com/discussions/4913591/aprils-finds to the Home Decoration Conversation side (or to add Conversation tag there if easier)?

it really evolved with time into something that belongs to Conversations..with lots of OT in its various forms..

Thank you in advance..penny I'm sorry for hijacking your thread..

You can have privacy lock down on FB and not participate on the social or public side. You can only interact with the private group if you choose. You don have to “friend” anyone. It’s actually much more private than H which is wide open to the world. If anyone needs help getting on or with privacy and permissions give me a shout.

Hi Lindsey, Regarding threads that have been removed - we don't allow threads discussing other members, so if those are flagged or otherwise found by our team, they are removed.

Administrative actions taken on any account here are between the account holder and Houzz. We don't discuss them with anyone else, out of respect for user privacy. Generally, that is appreciated by users who need help or have issues with their accounts or with the community. Certainly, if you have concerns about your own account, please do reach out to our team through help.houzz.com and we're happy to discuss your concerns.

@April - your thread has now been moved to Home Decorating Conversations. Hope that helps!

Thank you Emily, I really really appreciate your help

" Regarding threads that have been removed - we don't allow threads discussing other members, so if those are flagged or otherwise found by our team, they are removed. "

-may I suggest creating subforum, or sticky thread, or something, with a very clear list of rules?

if one wants to diminish speculations etc-there are several ways to go about that. but it appears Houzz's way of managing this issue now doesn't work, or creates opposite effect-nothing diminishes, it just grows and grows.

    I'd suggest:

    -list of rules

    that make common sense

rules that don't make sense usually don't work. Unless it's very cruel dictatorship. But then it's not a very good scenario either. Turns to be chaos, at some point.

-maybe a topic where admins say "such and such was banned, the time of ban is X and will expire on date such and such". You don't have to explain fully your reasoning-if you have a set of very clear rules, users will figure it out. And they'll know such and such is alive for example. I'm serious btw. Can be a comforting knowledge.

-transparency helps. But is not always wise. So, ok, another way-channel whatever curiosity/displeasure/questions/speculations community has, in such a way it benefits everybody. In the long run.

There is a thread? ok..participate..say what you have to say..if goes into really bad direction-put a virtual lock on it.

When you just delete and delete-new folks open new and new threads

So did you get your result? No. You achieved the opposite.

If you (I mean not you personally, I hope you understand) want a different result-you need to do things in a different way.

I understad it's a huge community and actually it's two communites merged together and it takes time

But it's important stuff to figure out.

Many threads here that start like something else turn into actively discussing other members. Too actively if you ask me. Human behavour(c) Nothing new.

I think it's about discussing Houzz's decisions rather than discussing other members, or else half of these forums would be gone..correct me if I'm wrong

In any case. You have moderation rules? Make them known.

also, why it's only you taking fire for this enormous site and it errors, glitches, etc?

    are you the only moderator?

If yes-site of this size can't be successfully managed by one person who's really talking to people.

There's ratio..like in any organization, you know

one doesn't have to make it inflated like in some doctors' offices

but it's too huge of a community. To have only one live real person talk to us

Not discussing another poster as a privacy issue is in the terms of use...

As far as I know, Ross and Demelza aren’t users and yet that thread was disappeared just like the rest.

Another forum I was on kept the profile, (minus any contact information) but simply put "Account suspended" underneath the name. Sometimes said person came back, sometimes not.

Moderators were under no obligation whatsoever to explain (and it should be that way, imho).

Anyway, I'll bow out of my thread, now.

Well pennydesign, I hope your original dilemma got solved before a side topic took over. Like I said, it would have been great to take it to a different place to discuss but all those places were eliminated. We've got Emily H's ear here for better or worse, and there are some important truths that Houzz needs to hear.

Of course moderators are under no obligation to explain. But we are all in the midst of creating the Houzz culture. The moderators and users get to decide what the culture will be by the moment-by-moment decisions that we make. Right now it looks like a culture of silence, secrecy, and denial. And may I be so bold as to say, oppression?

Is this still visible to all or only to those of us that have it open in our browsers?

This one is still here, for now.

i am sorry i have not been in good repair and maybe said before, but many of you have brought up in ability to find each other or threads that are still there. threads of course fall back as you don't use them. but you can always find them.

the easiest way to find anyone or anything or anyone you have been playing with is to go to your own home. go there click on them if either of you have friended each other. if not go to activity. even if it does not show just click on it again it will pop up. from there you can choose comments, which will show all those threads old and new, even a million year old ones if you are willing to spend the time. posts will show all your posts. if you are unable to find where you have there post. just do the same on there site, activity is always there.

Does houzz say they kicked her off? i doubt it, she has always been awful, and noone has ever kicked her off. and look how many of you seem to love her? maybe it has gotten too hard for her?
