Friends, need help deciding what to do with family room flooring.. do we:
1. Extend light oak kitchen floor throughout
2. Replace carpet
3. Install all new flooring different color

Looking to update space for it all to flow. Love a clean, light look, recommendations for flooring & decor welcome.

Agree totally with the comments from Sina Sadeddin. Paint off white, SW Alabaster good choice. Best wishes!

Hardwood throughout if you can afford it.

Wide plank hardwoods would really help update the space. If the budget doesn't allow, extend similar oak into the living room.

Hardwood throughout would increase the value and desirability of your home should you plan to sell it. Good quality bamboo flooring is both a sustainable and durable option, in addition to a contemporary look. The herringbone pattern in flooring is trending with millennials. The best value would be luxury waterproof vinyl flooring which could mimic the look of hardwood. This would be best if you have pets or if your floor is prone to spills.

If you're looking fin increasing the value of your home definitely look into making some updates to your kitchen or bathroom(s).

To liven and refresh the look of the space, consider a new paint color from Benjamin Moore (see below) and updating the pendant light fixtures to some statement pieces. Even changing some hardware and knobs to a modern matte brass or the now trending matte black sleek and modern hardware can freshen up the look of your home.

Since it is an open small area I would go with the hardwood. It will give the illusion of more space.

Hardwood with a nice rug for the family room.

Is there anything wrong with the carpet? If not I would keep it. It was installed nicely, so you have wood in the entry and wood in the kitchen/dining area.

For you to consider: the dining table rug is too small. Remove it and let the floor show; definitely, a more obvious chandelier; wall color just too safe and the chair rail is not necessary; not a fan of an area rug over wall to wall; you could get a big bang for your buck with different throw pillows; new ottoman to replace the leather one.

    For the walls: B.M muslin

I love this for a coffee table as it brings in the floor color onto your rug.

And some kilim throw pillows for the sectional.

I would continue the hardwood through the whole space. Good Luck!

I would chose hardwood, if it were me.

Should I keep the light oak floors since we already have it in place & just replace carpet with the same color?

Are those White Oak wood floors? Should be easy to source matching material.

I agree with all JudyG suggestions - if carpeting is fine, leave - otherwise replace with hardwood (hopefully matching). Love the coffee table!!!
