it looks very leggy but yes that would be a flower. Don't expect to see too much. It looks to have been kept in a lot of shade.

Yes, as I indicated it's in the sunniest spot in a tiny, shady yard. A lot of the leaves have simply flopped over because of this. It's clearly not the best spot for it, but there's nothing I can do. So I'm happy to hear that it will actually flower.

I've actually had some rather odd discussions about other plants where people have insisted that I "must" have sunnier spots. With a 10 x 20 ft. yard surrounded by buildings and with a tree hanging over, I have to make do and take a few chances as to which sorts of plants will do OK.

Many people push zones; I'm forced to push shade tolerance.

They are considered edible but you kinda have to suck the fruit off the seeds because there are TONS of little black seeds that are hard. I tasted a little bit and it was very good but too much of a chore to eat so they are mainly decorative.

I got my plant from Plant Delights online nursery. There turned out to be more seeds in the pot that came up after I moved it to a larger pot. They typically seem to put out one banana flower to a plant.

They are also fairly cold hardy going from 7b -10b, I think. This was the easiest and fastest fruiting banana I've ever grown. So its good for short seasons.
