LR curtains - contrasting or blending with wall color?

(The pictures posted in reverse order -- pic 1 is before we painted, pic 2 is after.)

I posted before about painting my brick fireplace. I still haven't made up my mind about that one. We did get the LR painted in the meantime though, see pic 2. (Couldn't interrupt the doggie's nap for the pic!) It's BM French Canvas, which is a chameleon of a color -- sometimes it's just off-white, sometimes beige, sometimes creamy, and sometimes a grayish-green. We haven't put back any artwork or most of the decorative items. I'm also including a pic (pic 1) of the other side before we painted since it shows a large colorful print and a cabinet that lives in the corner.

Now I need curtain advice. Something contrasting (there's green and turquoise in the rug) or something light and neutral to blend better with the walls? What would you do? Feel free to share other thoughts, I'm open to suggestions.

I love your large print. What color is the frame? How about a similar shade for curtains?

Wow, the lighter color paint made an amazing difference. Plus the new rug!

With the dark rug I'd go with drapes that are light in color to keep the open, airy vibe going.

What a gorgeous room! Absolutely love your wall colour. (Haven't come across French Canvas before. Will have to check it out!) I agree with leelee and would opt for light coloured drapes here. Have you tried covering your fireplace brick with paper to see how it would look lighter? I don't hate the brick but can see that it might start to weigh the room. What's going above the fireplace?

I love the wall colors! I'd go with gauzy/linen white curtains to maintain the cozy light and bright atmosphere. Dark colors would bring the mood of the room down. And I think it would be better to accent the trim color than to cover the trim with curtains similar to the wall color - not to mention how impossible it will be to find a perfect match.

Very nice choices you’ve made in this room. I would do light drapes. I like this style of drapes on rings, they are a bit more casual/relaxed than a formal pinch pleat and the rod has a proper return so there is no gap and no light coming through the sides at the wall. Love your coffee table.
If you live in a four season area, I like your brick as is, it would be cozy in the fall and winter and it goes very well with your rug and chairs.

Thanks for chiming in, everyone! I'm trying to lighten up this room, so it's great to hear everyone giving the thumbs up to light curtains. Now I have to go curtain hunting. Why isn't there just a giant curtain store when you need one? I can't spend a ton -- just my luck that these windows are huge and my ceilings are quite high. Wish me luck with the search!

I've photoshopped a lighter color on the fireplace and it looks good, but there were some good arguments on my other thread for keeping it as is, so I'm OK with it for now. Previously we had two B&W photos over the mantel, though if I find something more colorful that I love I might switch them out. We only buy art we really love so I'll have to wait for something to come to me. I need new end tables (hoping to bring in some shine and cut down on the brown) too. Geez, decorating is never ending.

If you decide to go with white, people rave about the cotton Ikea curtains (and you can order online now).

You know, I was just thinking about IKEA. They can be a little hit or miss, but I have some IKEA curtains that look much more expensive than they were!

These might be worth a look, IKEA Aina curtains, each panel is 57” x 98” long for $60 a pair and they are linen, unlined. Do you need 100% privacy?
