and this is AFTER repainting the cabinets! I hate these cabinets and counter tops!!! The cabinet doors get dusty/grimy in all the grooves, the counter tops have NO flavor whatsoever and the dishwasher doesn't match the other appliances! The entire house needs an update!

If you have tried very hard to redo the house to your taste and not your new husband's late wife's taste, perhaps you should consider moving. If you really won't be happy in the current house, you might be happier elsewhere. Look around, see what is available, look on the MLS and go to open houses. Give it some thought.

Remodelling the current house from the floors up is probably not going to be cost-effective, and you would have to move out anyway for the duration.
