So the exhaust duct would be visible in the outside of the wall?

Virtually all hoods allow for a turn in ducting. It's hidden. Even when the destination to exterior is a 90 degree turn

Sounds like you need to build a soffit to allow for an eight inch path. Call an HVAC guy. Alternative will be custom cover in stainless for the pipe to exterior.. A soffit is drywall, and cheaper.

Or get a recirculating hood, and don't run a stir fry kitchen : ) Depends how you cook. This is recirculating. We couldn't vent into the neighbor on the shared wall., nor through the roof, and the client refused a downdraft.............You do what you must.

Normally, the range hoods vent out the top or the rear. However, you can lower the hood, connect a duct -- which can face in any direction -- to the top of the hood, and then hide that duct with a cover. For example, see this Broan model and click the second little picture at the left. See page 3 of the installation instructions to see how the hood can be vented.

You can simply do a soffit piece or molding detail across the top of the hood then the duct will come up and turn to the side. It can also be transitioned from a 7" duct to a 4 x 10 to run across the tops of cabinets...
