Ideabooks now have no links??? Wassup with that?

I am so frustrated with the houzz website, I’m thinking of leaving for good. Now when you click on the “More info” link under a photo, it takes you to...the photo. That’s it. No more info, no link to the website, nothing.

So I went to support to open a case file into which I typed this critique:

The photos in my ideabooks no longer include links to the sites where items can be purchased. This is totally UNACCEPTABLE. We all depended on those links to help posters source decor we recommended and to find things we saved for later. I hope this is just an error in coding and the links will be restored. If not, then our ideabooks have become pretty much useless.

Then I proved to Captcha that I wasn’t a robot, submitted, and got an error message. I did this so many times, I exhausted all the Captcha pictures and went around for round 2. I never did get to submit.

Emily, if you’re reading this, here’s a question: does anyone test website changes before they roll them out?

Hi Groveraxle, Thanks for reaching out! Do you have a link to the ideabook / photos where you are seeing this issue, so I can check it out? Thanks!

Yup, I had noticed that as well but assumed people were saving screen captures in their ideabooks. Just checked a Houzz pic from my living room ideabook and it links to the picture only. There is a link called "contemporary" but it links to all the contemporary photos on the site. Hardly useful. Now I've no clue who the designer of the space is or any item source info!

@tartanmeup Can you post a link to the ideabook and photo you are referring to so we can take a look? Thanks!

Hi, Emily. Go to any of my ideabooks, any photo and you’ll see there are no links. Here is one:

Builders Choice 36 in. x 80 in. Cordovan 5 Lite Clear Glass Painted Fiberglass P · More Info

Normally, the “More info” link below the photo above would take you to another page on which would be a link to the website it came from.

I also tried to use the contact form a whole bunch of times and it’s not working either.

Hi Groveraxle, Thanks for the link! I just clicked the More Info link and I go to this page. The website link in the upper right, under the photo description, takes me to the Home Depot site in this case. Are you not getting that same link?

My page looks like yours EXCEPT I am NOT getting the link to the website. i used to get the link. However, i am temporarily (while my computer is in the shop) running Safari on an iPad. Perhaps that is why it doesn’t work. I normally run Firefox on a MacBook Pro and it has always worked there.

i will retest when my computer comes back. Thanks.

Hi, Emily. Just got my computer back and the issue noted above does not occur on the MacBook Pro. Thanks for your attention and sorry for the freak out (though I wonder if others have the issue and their iPads and just don't know it).

Grover, I use my iPhone the majority of the time and have never been able to link to the websites; I just thought that’s how it was for everyone. I’ve not tried our iPad or Mac computer, but now I’m thinking they might allow me to link.

Good to have you back with your computer. Your renderings are always my favorite!

Hi, djahlm, I was using my browser, not the houzz app, on my iPad and expected it to behave like the browser on my computer. I don't understand why they don't include the links when you use the app. On the computer, you click on the "More info" link beneath the photo and it takes you to another window which has the link to the website the picture came from. You should try it; it's so convenient.

Grover, I tried with the iPad last night and was able to see the “related searches,” which I wasn’t able to previously, but still no website link for me. I’ll have to make myself get up and try the Mac downstairs to see if my results are any different (first world problem, I know!). The convenience of the links would be awesome, but luckily people like you post enough info for me to be able to do a search and find the item. I usually find Houzz through my browser, not the Houzz app - maybe that’s why? I find navigating Houzz through my Safari browser much more user friendly. Thanks for the tip, I’ll keep trying.
