The top of my Fiddle leaf fig tree fell off

I have had a fiddle leaf fir for sometime now. The other day I notched it so It would grow a branch where i wanted it. I was laying on the bed next to it reading a book when the top fell over. I guess there was to much weight on the one side for it to hold. But i cut the top completely off and separated the two branches that where on the top. I have the branches in water that I put in a Mason jar. I wanted to know if I should cut all but a few leaves on the branches to help it rot better or won't it matter? Also now all I have is the stoke of the fig left with no leaves. With it continue to grow more leaves?
