Carpet Tile in the home?

Hi,
I’m converting my garage into a studio apartment to rent out or Airbnb... my instinct is to use dark grey carpet tiles for 3 reasons:
1. It’s durable
2. You can replace one tile at a time if there’s damage
3. My home already has wood laminent floors in 2 colors due to a previous addition to the house & I think it would be difficult to match them exactly.

My question is: Can carpet tile be a good way to go and if you happen to like the idea what brand and style could you recommend? Cheers!

First, make sure you can legally make your garage a living space to rent out. It's often more complicated and expensive than people realize.

Carpet squares aren't bad, but it really depends on how much you want to rent the space for. I'd say LVP is just as durable but it's more aesthetically pleasing to look at. Since the garage is a separate space it's okay to add another flooring material I'd say.

I don't think there's anything functionally wrong with them, but in terms of aesthetics and vibe, I find them acutely institutional. Also not good for walking on barefoot, as they are typically low-pile and scratchy, because you generally don't take your shoes off in your office.

I would mitigate the institutional vibe by getting a lighter warm color like taupe or something and laying down some cute rugs on top of it. The rugs will also be nicer on bare feet.

Flor ( the brand ) carpet tile are nice, very practical & come in a wide selection of colors, patterns, pile heights, etc. one of my relatives use them as area rugs in their very high end home, extremely practical. They’re really not inexpensive in a larger area.

Thanks Beverly, btw, when I noticed the area rug (Flor) I asked where they purchased it. That’s when I first heard of the product ... theirs looked entirely appropriate for their home ( worthy of appearing in Architectural Digest. ).

FLOR carpet tiles are great..but be careful, in my city, it is forbidden to convert a garage into a living space ....

I installed Select Elements carpet tiles that I purchased at Lowes. They are low pile, self-stick. Although they are not cushioned like regular carpet, I am happy with them. Pros: all were sized exactly the same, so installation was fast. They stick really well. Easily vacuumed. Cons: Not as comfortable to walk on as our old carpet. Not many color choices. I installed them myself as a temporary solution until I get laminate installed throughout the whole house. I did not follow the directions to rotate a square a quarter turn since I wanted a seamless look. $99./box, covers 60 square feet, tiles are 24x24.
