Joe Corlett is the one you need for help. However, I heard he left Houzz in protest. See if you can find him through the professional links and ask his opinion. He's shown pictures of repairs he's done in the past and they are virtually unnoticeable. Good luck with it. Even just a quick search will find you many posts where he has chimed in with excellent advice.

That is absolutely not quartzite. You can peruse karin_MT threads for information on how to distinguish quartzite. I know very little about quartz, but that looks like inexpensive granite- nothing wrong with inexpensive granite.

Thanks all. Can't say I'm too disappointed (though maybe a bit embarrassed) about mis-identifying the stone. Its look and condition is what sold me on it. I will try to figure out what is it, which might make it easier to find a repair person.

No reason to be embarrassed! Just trying to help identify it so you can find someone to fix and understand what you really bought/are getting for whatever you paid. I believe quartzite is generally a lot more expensive than granite (especially level 1 granite) so I’m also hoping your neighbor didn’t try to take advantage when selling it to you.

No, not his style and I'm sure he was going by what he had been told. It was in perfect shape and what I offered him ended up under $7/sq ft; he was just happy to get it out of his way.

Too bad - not sure that can be repaired... but Joe would definitely know... you may be able to use the good pieces to make a table or have them cut for a vanity top so you're not throwing away good money...

That is granite, not quartzite. Ask around for a good local fabricator and ask for their opinion, what they can do. It depends on what you expect but a decent repair should be possible.

Looks like Luna Pearl granite. A nice, reasonably priced granite.
