Quartzite repair?

Dick Rettug

In the middle of a kitchen redesign, I couldn't resist some quartzite countertops being sold by a neighbour in the middle of his own renovation. He'd inherited the house, and was "pretty sure" it was "quartz". Anyways, there wasn't a scratch or blemish, the colours were right, and the 9' x 26" main slab was long enough for what we needed.

He had a couple of his workers carry it into my house; when I saw them start to turn the slab to the horizontal with no support I shouted, but too late. Cracked right across the sink cutout.

(Incidentally, it was a painfully slow, resin-y crack. Does that suggest something about the quartzite quality?)

I know that no repair will be seamless, but can anyone suggest what my realistic expectations should be? Should I just write this off before bothering with the install and move on to looking for another countertop?
