It is a matter of opinion and personal taste but I would totally paint that brick. I adore how brick looks painted and I don't personally love the dusty and nonuniform colors I see on that brick. painting it would give the fireplace a dramatic update and truly make it shine, while also complimenting the room. Some people dismiss the idea of painting brick; I know my Mom and I did when we were selling her house. That said Im actually so glad we listened to the realtors suggestion, it looked way better after it was painted. Here are some pictures for inspiration.
