What style/kind of wallpaper do you think will look for this entryway?

Hello Houzz folks!

I am looking to wallpaper my entryway wall. This is a 2 story wall and I want to it to have a dramatic effect. This is how my entryway looks as of now. It is still a work in progress. I have a blue runner rug ordered. And I working on the console table display as well. What colors do you think will look good here? I also plan to paint my entrance door with a light blue or a color that will go well with the wallpaper

That’s a LOT of wallpaper. You better price it out before you get too far into this project. This is a job for a professional paper hanger if there ever was one!
Oh yes! This is definitely a job for a professional because of the height of the wall.

What wall are you looking to wallpape, the wall with the door or the one the console table is on? If wall with console table, where are you stopping the paper?

The wall with console table. The entire wall

15 feet high, 16 feet wide

can you post a picture of what’s on the other side of that door?

What type of budget do you have? As Tootsie said, that's a LOT of wallpaper. What's your style? Anything you dislike? Stripes? Florals? Etc. What are you picturing in this space? Dramatic can mean different things to different people. Can you show us the rest of the space that connects to the entryway? From these pictures, I'm not sure your table and mirror are of appropriate scale for the space.

I'd be wary of papering this whole space with a pattern because I'd worry of tiring of it. If I really wanted to use wallpaper, I'd be looking into textures or a subtle pattern like a strié or ombré. I've seen ombré papers in entrances that look like murals. Very dramatic, imo.

ETA: I see now you're looking to paper just one wall. Ok, that'll help with suggestions. Thanks.

Have you actually looked at the logistics of doing this? And looked at wallpaper already?

To get each vertical strip in one piece is going to take some work. Many wallpaper rolls are not long enough to paper a wall of that length without piecing. I just randomly picked some papers from a few sites. Single rolls were roughly 16 feet long. That would work but only if there was a straight match. It seems like most papers I have used are drop matches. A roll of this length would not give you enough to accommodate for this. Double rolls were in the upper 20s in length meaning you would not be able to get 2 strips out of one roll.

Not sure what your budget is for this project , but the $$$ could add up fast because of your wall dimension. Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you might want to check into this if budget is a consideration.

The other side leads to a dining room.

I am not looking for something very busy. I think heavy/big patterns would lead to this.

I think something more abstract, textured or tans/whites/greys with pops of color would work without making it too busy. The wall alone is a boring shade of white with a warm undertone.

RNmomof2 - Budget is not an issue.

    What's across from the table?

Great that budget is not an issue. I had seen that the coordinating vases were too expensive for you to purchase on the other thread and thought perhaps you had a budget on this project. Good luck!

Have you considered grasscloth? It's got a beautiful texture and comes in an array of colors.

groveraxle Love your editing skills. May I ask what you used?

Sounds like you want texture more than colour and you say money is no object... start at Phillip Jeffries and if you can't find what you want among their grasscloths, silks and raffias, move on up from there. A standard grasscloth bolt is 24 ft. but they can run longer on one bolt.

Yes, Phillip Jeffries is known for grasscloth, but you can also get it at Kravet, Thibaut and Schumacher. Make sure you hire an installer who is experienced at grasscloth.

This beautiful wallpaper is available in 16 colours. In the Houzz picture they used it from the bottom up AND from the top down to fill the height of the wall.

I'm still not getting a sense of your style...what is drama to one person may be crazy to another.

I'd suggest searching in houzz for wallpaper and foyer in photos and see what might appeal.

If you're going for modern drama then a large graphic may suit you. But keep in mind that it's not just the color but the level of contrast between the color and the background that's going to count in terms of how 'disturbing' the pattern is.

This is an example of vibrancy driven by the boldness of the graphic design, the repetition of the pattern and the color contrast. It's certainly dramatic, though I couldn't live with it.

I think wallpaper, like painting an "accent wall," will really have a strange effect when you're using it in a space that (a) is a very strange geometric shape (low, high, angled, ending in odd places), and (b) already has focus due to furniture, etc. I am not at all sure that you will be happy with the result.

For such a large area, if you just wanted to add some interest and texture to the wall and since money is no object, you might talk to an artist about getting a faux finished painted on the walls instead.

I would spend my money on a fabulous large piece of art that will go with you if you move and will always work . I would not do the door in any shade of blue it works very well in white.

babophz - That wallpaper is beautiful !

Annie Deighnaugh - That is also a great idea. My main intention is to add some subtle colors and texture. Paint would make it look very 1 dimensional. So I am looking at abstract wallpapers or textured ones. I will be staying away from patterned wallpapers. I like your idea about a faux finish on the walls as well.

acm - Yes, the intention is to make it an accent wall. One of the main reasons we got this house was for the 2 story entryway. The intention was to make it give a grand entrance feel. But so far I haven't been able to do justice to this.

Patricia Colwell Consulting - Art work is a great idea too. But I am more inclined towards paint/wallpaper for this wall

Peoc, can we see a pic of the front door wall? I can't tell right now but maybe you should wallpaper that wall as well. I agree with not painting the door, but may change my mind after you put on the wallpaper or the art :)

I know you're set on wallpaper at the moment, but I think grover's banners would be great too (I also love the rug):

I also like this wallpaper very much. The big pattern would help to soften the shapes of the space that acm mentioned, while the soft colours would keep it from being overwhelming.
