Has anyone tried using an atrium grate as a net pot

I was at a Lowes store that is going out of business. They had atrium grates (look like large fancy net pots) on clearance so I picked up some. Wondering if anyone has ever tried using these. They look like can can hold a nice amount of clay pebbles.
