Plant options for my 55 gal

I have a well established 55 gal tank about 12 years old. Lighting is probably not too good for most plants because I have a single fluorescent t8 bulb zoned towards for plants and fish colour.

The tank is stocked with 10 neon tetras, 2 platies (which are children through breeding and breeding in the tank), 6 beunos tetras and 6 raspboras. All which seem quite happy and never get any nasty sicknesses. Water changes dont get done nearly as much as i want to but usually ever 2 to 3 weeks. And there is plenty of filtration

I am trying to find some nice live plants that would help compliment my tank. and perhaps hide the straight through view of the wall a little. Obviously geared toward low lighting and hopfull low maintenance.

I tried Java Ferns which grew well however the fish seemed to chop any new growth down till the plants had nothing left

Adding plants to an aquarium complicates matters quite a lot. You have to feed the plants, make sure carbon dioxide levels are correct, have appropriate lighting. I have friends who do this sort of thing. They are right into it, but it's a lot of work monitoring everything and making adjustments. The easiest solution would be to put an image at the back, one that you find suitable. Not the same thing, but very much easier to maintain.

im prepared for work. i run multiple tanks already. sadly i havent been able to find a background this tall. looking for plant choices something thats low lighting and doesnt need co2 to start

There still are some aquarium forums around, if you try googling you might find something more positive on them. One that I look into occasionally is Aquarium Life, but there are others also.
