I would and I would have them match the same grout lines as the walls, whether the tile is the same pattern or not, like this...

You won't see the back of the niches really due to the products filling them up. I never get why people place them so prominently, just to have big ugly shampoo bottles be the focal point. Look for some decorative plastic bottles at least. Faux crystal, or faux tinted glass.

I agree, the same tile as the walls. I don't think I'd use herringbone in that space, it isn't big enough to get much of a pattern in the niche. Or, you could use the hex from the floor in the niche. That would be fine too. I agree with the poster above - decorative bottles looks much nicer that plastic bottles that tend to get mucky and gooey in the shower. Nice idea that I must try to institute in my own home.

Totally agree with decorative bottles! I have amber glass bottles and have an old school label maker (like in the pic) to differentiate between soap, shampoo, conditioner. Game changer!

You can find the bottles and label maker on Amazon for super cheap.

I would not recommend putting glass bottles in the shower.... don't ask how I know...

I also agree that you should continue the field tile in the niche. There's not need to add busy tile to that area.
