Thoughts on high gloss kitchens?

I'm an American, but I was living in London for 2016-2018 and had a great glossy kitchen. I now live in the midwest in a traditional 1969 home and I'm wanting to redo my kitchen. I really liked my glossy kitchen, it was so easy to clean the fronts and I just liked the shiny-ness. But I don't really think they are very popular around here, no? Are glossy kitchens only for highrise condos? Would it be too weird in a 50 year old home?

Just because your house is 50 years old doesn't mean it's not victorian or craftsman, tudor or whatever other "traditional" style.

If on the other hand if your house is a simple ranch or other midcentury style, you should be able to do a glossy kitchen without it looking off. Just be careful that your kitchen won't make everything else look shabby in contrast.

I don't live in a condo, but in a Chicago Northshore suburb. Ours is a 2 story 60s house with modern details. My not quite finished high gloss white kitchen fits beautifully into the space. In fact, we have also glossy white vanities in the bathrooms and a long glossy white sideboard in the dining room. Like you, I love how white gloss brings freshness to a room and a quick wipe with a damp sponge is all it takes to get drips and splashes off. Plus with white gloss, fingerprints don't show and any reflections are subdued.

I think they’re sleek! Depends on the style of everything else in the house, especially in adjoining rooms. If you have roll arm sofas and chippendale chairs, then maybe not.

A 50 year old home as in a midcentury modern? I think you could make that work. Craftsman, Colonial, traditional, ? No, please don't.

Patricia had a glossy kitchen in a traditional house. I can’t find the photo, but she posts it once in a while. She had no issues selling.

Was your London space open?

Your layout can have an impact. Open plan will mean you can fit it in if you also match the furnishings in the living and dining areas to the same style. Any lighting fixtures also.

I don’t think the outside and inside of a home need to match. I have a modern home exterior elevation. My interior is very traditional/transitional. I even throw in some cottage. If it’s well appointed it should be fine.
