Small living room with front door-need furniture arrangement help!

I need help arranging furniture in our small living room which the front door opens straight into. I find it quite an awkward space. And the front door makes the room feel uncomfortable to me.

There is no room to create a little entrance way on the hinge side of the door. since the door is right against the wall, there is it room for hooks and I don't really want our coats handing in the living room.

There is no additional Den and this room also needs to work for a toddler so I probably wont have a coffee table just so there is a little more space for him to run around.

We have recently moved in and as you can see everything is a work in progress, there are still no pictures up and we are in the middle of getting a slip cover for our sofas.

The wall to wall carpet is staying for now, but I would love a colourful area rug. Unfortunately where we live there are isn't much available to actually go see in store and I am unsure of buying online. Also after spending too much time on pinterest I would love a vintage Persian/ Turkish rug and that is way out of our budget!

measurements for reference: our living room is 16'6" x 13'5",

our larger sofa is 6' long and the love seat is 4'4" both are 2'7" in depth. the book case is 5'8" long and 1'4" deep.

I will upload some photos with a variety of furniture arrangements. Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated I just don't like this space at the moment!

oh also there is an Edwardian fire place surround in the photos as well. we don't have an actual fire pace but are considering attaching this to a wall for some visual interest. I'm not super keen but my husband likes it. I will miss having a mantle to place decorative objects on but im nor sure this is my preferred solution.

if you made it this far thanks again!!!!

    This room is quite long.

I would have loveseat and side table along the short wall that enters the next room with the sofa facing it. Place entertainment center and TV along the entry wall.

Add a bench behind the sofa to create an entry.

Thanks, for your suggestion. we don't have a TV! and so no entertainment center.

I think I might see what the facing sofas look like anyways but the entry wall might look a little bare?

If there is no TV then I would place the sofa/love seat toward the front of the room. Allowing space for the kids toys and the play behind the love seat, hiding the mess from the front door. You could place a tall cabinet/bookcase along the entry wall, with a bench next to it and some nice artwork.

Would end up being very similar to my home actually, I could take photos and message you if you would like to see the set up.

I would place an ottoman between sofa/loveseat. Add a lamp behind the sofa and 1 side table for each.

I wouldn't do that fireplace surround. It's jus not a good look w/the type room/decor you have. try it elsewhere.

try craigslist and similar sources for rugs, tables, shelving.

as for the room layout, for the wall that's next to the doorway, and to the right of window (pic #3 up top) what if you did some cool shelving or book cases?

I'd also look into doing some sort of shade or blind instead of those bulky drapes.

This is a simple layout you could copy. a larger sofa w/a chaise would work for that room better than your two sofas. if doing a tv, try a shallow console and mount the tv to the wall.

you can do a 'coffee table' by utilizing an ottoman or something similar.

this type of sofa against the large windows would work out better. notice the blinds, nice contrasting paint color on the walls, colorful rug, potted plants.

same layout. Imagine your windows are behind the sofa. shallow shorter shelving on the opposing wall is great for kids toys and books. mount tv. fabric ottoman for coffee table. neutral rug.

JudyHJudy I would love it if a table would fit in the living room but I really don't think there is enough room.
