Hawk Eating Bird Seed and Suet With Other Birds

Today I watched a hawk eat bird seed and suet at the feeder. I watched for at least 10 minutes and yes he was actually eating the bird seed. I snapped some pics and in one pic you can see that the birds (perhaps desperate for food during this cold snap) seem unconcerned with his presence.

Interesting. I have a few hawks here on my farm but have never witnesses them at any of my 6 feeders. Yeah, lots of birds are desparate in this cold.

When I went out to feed the birds today I checked to see if maybe my eyes had deceived me and the hawk was pecking away at a bird or small mammal. Not a drop of blood or feather in the snow. Will be looking out the window today to see if he/she returns.

So the hawk only pecked at it and didn't kill it/carry it off? Hmmm.......maybe he/she's been eating them and you haven't see it?

No catherinet- I saw the hawk eat the bird food seed and suet. The brown area he is standing on is a pile of no mess bird seed with suet chunks. I trust my eyes but since it was so unusual I wanted to double check. The only thing the hawk was killing that morning was the bird seed.
