Micro Bathroom: Need full-service w/shower (head?)

"Airport Bathroom" ...friends call it in my 1928 restored tudor. Yep! I need to add a shower and, with just the right fixtures, I know you all can help me do this. Prepping for aging as a single woman...AND option for Airbnb on this floor, I need a full bath! I'd love to create an award-winning design., ideally within the current space. (36" w x 51" d) With a preference to use this space only, I could tile all, mount sink on corner wall, put shower drain where pedestal is & expand into hall a tiny bit by changing the standard door to sliding door. (See more below.)

Next ...View from entrance of my home through to small kitchen. Bathroom door is on the left in hallway. Refrigerator is directly on other side of bathroom. (Prefer not to relocate frig to other side.)

View from front door (bathroom door is in hallway on left. (See doorknob). Stairs to basement precede it on left.

Options considered, ideally wheelchair accessible:

1) Expand as is, w/handheld shower head, move wall-mount sink to back wall, slant floor and insert drain in floor.

2) Design incredibly tasteful tiled hallway w/sliding doors on either side to temporarily expand bathroom into hallway w/ shower head so high up it could not be seen, and embed drain in hallway.. (When done showering, strong vents or fans would dry quickly!)

3) Install shower directly across from bathroom hallway (in place of glass cabinet on right). From outside, facing living room, it would have faux cabinet finish or faux door to blend with original hardwood.

With plumbing in place on that side of my home, the cost to build new master, expanding bedroom on other side of this 1st floor would be high...AND really mess with the beauty and openness of this floor plan. I'd LOVE to see examples in order to convince contractors it could be stunning, practical and legal! Help! :)

View to the right of entrance. Bedroom is in back corner behind temporary curtain!

I am assuming you can get to the kitchen through the living room where I see the corner glass cabinet... If so then close the hallway to the kitchen and make that all bathroom.

There is no way as it is right now that it could ever be a wheel chair accessible bathroom as you mentioned. And even doing that I think it would need to be designed as a full wetroom.

Making it beautiful will be a matter of using awesome tile!

    Good luck!

Sina and Debbi...Thank you...both. Your comments are well-taken. (I already have 3 professional tenants whose schedules are such that one lovely master bathroom works for all on 2nd and 3rd floor suites.)

*I live in a prime, respectful neighborhood adjacent to Syracuse U a private university, thus visiting professors, visiting nurses and an international community love this set-up already.

So...would you recommend expanding into kitchen/refrigerator area OR mess with infringing on expansiveness of dining or living room area adjacent to bedroom on other side of 1st floor?

YES! Awesome tile that actually blends with the 1928 character of my home. Yes, I love preserving character, yet also know that the joy for me is in inviting warm, wonderful people into my life so I can join with other seniors as I become one myself! Thank you so much!!!

It's not even a legal size for a powder room. If you want an accessible bath, you're going to need to give up a bedroom to do it. And then build ramps to get into the house. And widen a few hallways and doorways.

I think if you would like some great ideas, we need a floor plan with dimensions for that area and the kitchen/ dining/living room along with some photos to give you our best input! There are many talented people here that can suggest things you may not even think of!

Debbi, your encouragement is so appreciated. Single and semi-retired, my budget is such that I will likely have to close off hallway.. If there are any options (even tiny home bathrooms) for a 37" x 60" or 37" x 88" space. (The "Pipe" is the stack coming from upstairs. I can remove that part of the wall and enclose the pipe as a square column w/ e.g., wrap-around shelf rather than losing that entire 6"...see photos from above.)
