Living room /playroom

My house is decorated in traditional/Farm house decor. The living room is currently a playroom. I am looking for ways to organize/decorate this room. It has 2 large openings and a large window. We are going to put can lights in to improve the lighting. Would you add white storage/bookshelves?

I would get those lovely wing chairs out of there before they are ruined. If you need someplace to sit, get a nice club chair with an ottoman and be sure it is slipcovered.

Is this the only place in your house for a playroom? I would not want to give up my LR, but then many years ago, I had a friend with 4 children who gave up her DR (right off the entrance hall, right inside the front door), and turned it into a huge playroom.

    To each his own...

I agree, move those chairs out of there. Where is this room in relation to your other rooms? Is it off the entry? is it the only room that works for the playroom? I would look at some bookcases or cabinet style pieces where you can store things inside.

When you walk into our house this room is to your left and the dining room is to your right. It is also connected to our family room, which is where we have our comfy couches, ottoman, fireplace and TV. This is the only room for a playroom. It is the perfect location because I can see my 3 and 1 year old from almost anywhere in the house. I agree, the chairs are not my favorite. They were a garage sale find. They are a lovely pale blue. I added the slip covers to change the color, but keep the cost down. My kids are not hard on furniture. In general, we try to buy higher quality so it last. This room as always been an after thought. We have 4 kids under the age of 8 and have moved to this house 6 years ago. It has been a busy season in our life, but now that our youngest is 2..we are ready to finish our house.

Love the fact that you use this room as a playroom and it’s adorable! So many times a formal living room is unused and staged looking. You are family oriented and have given your children a wonderful place to call their own, and as a plus, this keeps toys coralled in one area and not all over the place. Your children will grow up soon enough, and you will have your living room back for adult entertaining. And, yes to white storage/bookshelves!

It sounds like a great spot for a playroom, and doesn’t take away from other living space. Do you live near an ikea? They have some great storage options and bookshelves. I would leave the chairs in there if the kids use them, otherwise move them out to free up some more space. You could put some taller white bookshelves/storage cabinets where the black cubby piece is. Store a bunch of the toys in the cabinet. It sounds like your kids will be to the age soon where they would benefit from a desk/study area, which you could put along the wall where the dollhouse is (in which case I would move the dollhouse to the opposite corner where the chair is.
